Me On A Monday - March 20th

Good Morning.  We have had another two rounds of snow storms in our region.  Saturday & Sunday's snow fall was like living in a snow globe, very pretty at times, although late Saturday it felt like someone was giving the whole thing a right shaking.  We couldn't even see across the field for several hours.  Glad I was safe at home doing laundry.  Wait did I just say glad to be doing laundry ... oh my the effects of an ongoing winter for sure.

Currently Reading: I've got a couple of cookbooks from the library, both from Milk Street collections.  Maybe gleaned 1-2 recipes; an awful lot of recipes calling for fish sauce or hot spice & we cannot do either. Mostly doing some reading for my Lenten Study.

Currently Watching:  On Brit Box, we found "Grace" - this is so far an excellent series, IOO (in our opinion).  We haven't quite finished The Coroner, which for us is rather tough going, the last 3 episodes have been rather irritating, in that the story was weak, IOO.

Currently Celebrating: at church last Sunday (19th) we celebrated Mothering Sunday & of course we had the traditional Simnel Cake afterwards although this year, it was not decorated with the 11 marzipan balls, our baker lady couldn't find reasonably price marzipan.  Once service & coffee hour were over, we celebrated with a drive by one of our parishioner's home as a way of celebrating her 90th birthday.  She's not able to get out to church in person & watches online.  Lots of honking as a line of 10 cars drove by her house. Hopefully her neighbours didn't complain.

Currently Planning: for church, we are hosting a King's Coronation celebration tea party for May 6th. So far I am making posters of King Charles' life; pictures from several of the other royalists magazine collections,  brownies for the sweets tray & the CR III cutouts for the table floral vases.

Spring arrives in our part of the world on Monday, March 20th at 5:46pm.  I'll leave you with a photo of my garden, taken a few days ago. Underneath all that snow, Mother Nature is doing her work & I repeat out loud several times a day ... "no winter lasts for ever"

And as photo of encouragement, this was the same garden view from July 2022 - there's hope & promise.

  1. Won't it be lovely to see what is emerging once that snow disappears?
The new season on Grace has just started over here. It's off to a good start!

    1. We have just finished season one, so I'm glad we will have several other seasons to get through. We don't get Happy Valley until sometime in April, so I imagine Grace #4 will be later in the summer for us. Forecast is rain & +10 for Wednesday, so that should help with the snow departing!! March & April are such months weather flux.

  2. Crikey, all that snow does indeed make Spring look a long way away.

    1. The sun shone all day but it wasn't much above +3 so not a lot of melt (yet). It will be end of April before we see any real spring like weather, but just knowing that it's now officially spring I think will help.

  3. Some of the worst weather didn’t come this Far East. (Autocorrect capitalized.) Thanks goodness. We still have enough snow.

But happy spring to us. It is sunny here and supposed to go up to 6C.

    1. I think most of the weekend storms would isolated areas - it was most weird on Sunday the sun was out & brilliant, then 10 minutes later you couldn't see the house next door for the blowing snow; back & forth like that all day.

  4. Hopefully it won't be too long until your garden is looking it's beautiful self again.

    1. Thanks Liz. It's been a long dark winter & the lack of sunlight really did affect me. So the longer amount of daylight & moments of brilliant sunshine really help. So glad to see you pop by & visit :)

  5. We keep looking at our front yard through our Ring Doorbell, hoping the snow melts before we get home on Thursday. There's hope since rain is forecast. We've enjoyed Spring in the south, though as we drive north we see fewer trees leafed out. I'm trying to memorize the greens, which, to me, is the blessing of spring! Our friends in Florida were apologizing for the cool weather, but it seemed very warm to us! Your beautiful photo of the garden in bloom is inspirational!

    1. Yesterday as the sunshine was present all day, one of the patio lights that is buried in snow, melted enough to show the cap - it was enough to have me on the patio at 5:24p to do a little welcome spring dance! I am sure all that Florida sunshine will travel with you :).

  6. I'm late to the party in watching Grace. Season 3 has just started here but I need to go back and watch the first two series on catch-up first. It's had good reviews and I do like the actor.

I'll watch the Coronation on TV on the 6th and then we have a street party (which I may or may not go to) on either the 7th or the 8th. The problem is that the dates clash with children's birthdays and they are just as important to celebrate as well! xx

    1. We are taking Grace slowly to drag out. Celebrating birthdays on the coronation weekend I am sure will be extra special times My friend with a 7 yr old, living currently in London, worries that they'll think all their birthdays should be celebrated like this year's which falls on the Saturday the 6th. LOL

  7. We had sleet yesterday morning! But it was mixed with our ongoing rain and winds. No chance of snow.

    1. Old Man Winter just won't leave, no matter how many hints we give "him". We had light snow over night which will probably melt & be gone by noon.

  8. Attempt no. 5 and here I am at last. Not that my twopenneth is that essential to anyone...
The contrast between those last two photos is amazing, and it surprises me each year how quickly your seasons catch up with ours once the last of your snows melt.
Nice little celebration for your 90 year old. Did she wave from the window? Any neighbour who would complain about something like that needs to get a life ... but then there are some grouches around!

    1. Oh dear Lady Ella it seems that you continue with computer woes :) Our 90 year old stood all bundled up at the end of her driveway greeting & accepting cards, balloons & flowers. She is much loved by the community but she has some new neighbours from the city & don't get our country ways (lol). I am anxious for the season catch up :)
