Take Three Thursday - Digging Deep

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Three Thursday.   The idea is to take 1 - 3 photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in.   What have you noticed this week?

Please have a peek at what others have found this week:

This week my three are about some of the black squirrels in our back garden.

I finally put out the little pumpkin I had for decoration at Thanksgiving, for their feasting pleasure on a hard winter's day to allow the squirrels a feast.  There seemed to be great enjoyment but oh what a mess!  Mr Man's comment was "you'll have a hard time cleaning that up come the spring."  On second thought maybe I should have tossed into the field rather than on the patio.  Well at least I got to watch them enjoy!

  1. Around here most (like 99.9%) of the squirrels are grey. We have about 3 black squirrels in our neighborhood and it's always a double-take when I see them.

    1. Black squirrels are native to Canada along with the little red ones & we have those in the garden too!

  2. We don't have any black (or red) squirrels here in London - they're all gray.

They do look as if they're having fun tho'!

    1. The grey/gray are American squirrels which we have lots of along with the black & red. I think there's a hybrid group around of the combo of black & grey.

  3. Like Cheri, we only tend to see grey squirrels here. It must have been fascinating to watch them devour that pumpkin. Would have driven Coco crazy to have that in 'her' garden - she is chief squirrel chaser in our household!

    1. Our cats made friends with one of the black squirrels through the window - they would run back & forth on the window ledge - oh the sounds the cats made. I think they know they aren't other cats.

  4. I've never seen a squirrel that color!

We are blessed with so many squirrels that I never put out anything attempting to attract them ;)

    1. Black squirrels are our native squirrel along with the little hyper red squirrels. Because we live with a lot of forest surrounding us, whether we feed or not, they are around. I don't feed them in the other seasons, just in winter, I feel so bad for them trying to survive.

  5. Although I am not a big fan of squirrels, the black ones especially (they got into my attic once and destroyed my air conditioning wiring) they are fun to watch. The ones around here always seem terribly hyperactive, as if they are on "uppers"!

    1. Oh I agree Chris, squirrels can be very naughty. Our red squirrels are the ones that seem to be on something, so very hyper!

    1. I would happily send you (England) a few dozen of black squirrels ... although I read that your red squirrels are under enough threat from the American Grey squirrels, so we won't add a Canadian element to that!

  7. The first black squirrels I ever saw were in Niagara-on-the-Lake. None in Rochester, but our gray ones eat our pumpkins if we don't spray them when we put them out.

    1. Canada, the melting pot, even of squirrels (lol). This year everyone had problems at Halloween with the squirrels eating their display Jack O Lanterns. There's also a big Nov 1 Pumpkin Pig Party - apparently pumpkins are tasty to all kinds of beasties.
