Pairs - Up Too Close For Comfort

Linking In With Helena: http://helenascreativemaven.blogspot.ca/

I was brave and took the lead from so many of the other talented ladies in blogville and photographed up close, insects.

Getting close to this brilliant yellow spider did make me very nervous.  I noticed her web before I noticed her and after my initial stomach flip at being so close to a spider, I quickly got my camera and snapped away.

White Banded Crab Spider-Probably A Female

Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly

My second photo of the lovely butterfly was not nerve wracking at all - she was moving quickly and I wish I could have caught her with the wings open, there were lovely blue spots on her wings.

    1. Thanks. I was faster running away once the spider started to move again.

    1. Thank you. I was surprised by the variety of coloured spiders in my garden. We get one that is pure white but from what I have just been reading about the yellow one, the white could be the same time.

  3. Great captures. I admire your bravery with the first and speed with the second :-)

    1. Thank you. I don't think spider photography will be a future endeavour for me. Spiders leap and move way to fast for my comfort level.

    1. Thanks. Insects really seem to be popular right now and it is most interesting to see everyone's finds.

  6. I really like the butterfly shot, with one flower in focus and the other fuzzy. I don't like spiders, though I wish I did as they are all over the house at the moment...

    1. Thanks Lady Ella. Lots of practice with depth of field. Oh poor you with the spiders. I read somewhere that this is a natural spider repellant; 5 to 7 drops of peppermint or lavender oil in a spray bottle and top up with warm water & a splash of dish soap and spray on your door ways & window ledges. I wonder if the weather has something to do with them wanting to come indoors.

    2. Thanks. I also have conkers in every room and a conker and clove spray. (Though the spray is under the sink - not much use there, is it?!)

  7. They are both great photos. Interesting to see a yellow spider. Not easy catching butterflies is it?

    1. Thanks Maggie. It saddens me how few butterflies we get.

  8. Gorgeous shots! And I agree with you - getting up close with a butterfly is much more comfortable than with a spider or bee!

    1. Thanks Jill. Bees! that would take a really big telephoto lens.

    1. While I am not a fan of spiders I do try to avoid stepping on them.
