Happy August Lists - Day 25

Question 25 - Your Fears

Today it is 4 months before Christmas.  How's that for sharing fear?

What am I afraid of or fear?

I am very much afraid of Praying Mantis (insect).  When I was little my Mother told me that they bite  1" deep and an 1" wide.  Scares me to even see a picture of them.

I am absolutely terrified of flying.  No idea why, I use to fly quite a bit and never had a bad experience.  But this fear has taken a firm grip upon me and it's so bad I cannot even go to the airport to greet arriving friends or family.

  1. I have an awful fear of lifts. And anything resembling a lift - like a chair lift. I think it's that feeling of being out of control - if it got stuck there is no way I could get out! And yet I am ok with flying. Weird. I'm not surprised you don't like the thought of praying mantis after that horror story!

    1. I can understand that feeling of being out of control - and in a lift you are so closed in. I don't think that many of our fears have a lot of reason to them. I am still baffled as how my fear of flying developed. I hope I never find out if my Mother was correct about the P.M.!!

  2. Been off radar a few days but just checking in and confirming I've caught up on all your posts! No thanks to peaches but if you have any nice, soft nectarines going spare, I'm interested!
Sorry to hear how bad your flying fear is. Never realised. I'd hate to be subject to a fear that strong.

    1. I thought you were with college friends so I wasn't worrying too much. Ah the nectarines come in at the same time as peaches. They are so tasty & much easier to eat. I shall save you a few :)

  3. i can sympathise with your flying fear. My sister is exactly the same and has no reason to fear flying either.

    1. Through my Fear Of Flying course I met several others with the same fear with no rhyme nor reason to it. Very few of us graduated, in spite of the excellent course. :)

  4. It's difficult to explain to some people your fears .... Even to ourselves in our head it doesn't make sense sometimes. But oh those fears sure are real

    1. I have read up a lot on fears and know all the cute little things that go with it but until you experience some of those life gripping fears, it is hard for those unaffected by such fears to get it. I do continue to work on mastering those fears.

  5. Bats and pigeons for me..anything very flappy. And I don't have a rational explanation either. I've read about classes to help with flying phobia..I wonder would that help?

    1. Oh Sian I can understand the bats fear - we get them around just at dusk and they can certainly unsettle my evening patio sit! I have taken a Fear of Flying course and while it was excellent, I did not graduate. I am not giving up hope that I will one day conquer and take to the skies again. I did do a 2 page spread about it, it was titled - When Did Luggage Become Baggage?
