Pairs Birds Of A Feather That Don't Flock Together

Linking in with Helena's Pairs: http://helenascreativemaven.blogspot.ca/

Birds Of A Feather That Don't Flock Together.  Or maybe known as the small and tall.  These photos were taken at the same place, the closed up Guelph Correctional Institute's property, just on different days.  Would liked to have gotten closer, but both are rather nervous feathered friends.  The Blue Heron caught a frog while I was snapping away, but I wasn't quite quick enough to captured that on film.

  1. Lovely photos. I love the way you've captured the ripples in the second one.

    1. Thank you Eileen. Initially I was trying for a reflection but his slow walk made the ripples, so I went with that :)

    1. Thanks Marsha. We get a lot of waxwings in our your yard during the winter months and even then as soon as I point the camera, gone!

  3. Oh how pretty - that waxwing has lovely colourings. We have herons near us here - they are very used to people so ignore us, but rarely pose where I can get a clear shot...

    1. Thanks Missus ... I think the herons at the prison grounds get chased by roaming dogs so that makes them cautious.

  4. Yours tie in so well with Helena this week! Amazing to see a heron catch a frog. Our herons tend not to be too shy but I don't think I have ever seen one hunting.

    1. I know wasn't that funny/odd how there seem to be unspoken themes running the universe. Mr Blue catching the frog and swallowing whole amazed me first before it was gross.

  5. They are quite different! It's very unusual to see a heron round here

    1. The Blue Herons are surprisingly becoming quite common a sight. I have seen a heron fishing in a backyard hard plastic pond set up - I guess they search out food where ever available. I would like to see baby herons.

  6. 2 great captures - I find it so hard to get small birds in focus before they move

    1. Thanks Helena. If you had told me that I would become fascinated by birds and even photograph them, well I would have laughed long. Now Mr Man and I are signing up to be backyard bird feeder trackers - funny how life changes our interests.

  7. As a friend and I were walking along the Erie Canal this week, a blue heron swooped in and landed on the edge of the path just ahead of us. I never tire of seeing them!

    1. There are magnificent aren't they. When you say swoop, I only once had one land after flight near me - that wing spread made that swoop sound.
