Wisdom Wednesday

There are two ways to get enough.  One is to continue to accumulate more & more.  The other, is to desire less.

                G.K. Chesterton

Another piece of wisdom I struggle with.  I have developed a bad case of FOMO (fear of missing out) which I am taking myself in hand about this ailment - the cure, I believe is just a few days away.  For me, October is Gratitude month & as we Canadians move to Thanksgiving on Monday October 12th, I'll be taking  my medication of 31 days of  morning & evening daily thank you for all that I have.

Me On A Monday - September 21st

Good morning.  I am sharing some photos from my walk with a friend.  I've never been to the fairgrounds for a walk.  I knew about the lake but did not realize how big it is.  It was a nice socially distance, out of doors walk & it was certainly nice to see something new to me.  The only part of this walk & chat, was seeing one of the trees already displaying it's beautiful, but too early, Autumn colours.  We are meeting here for another walk & chat later this week.

a man made lake - the wildlife says thank you

no idea Fairy Lake was so large - it's horseshoe shaped

the community garden abandoned during COVID times

a memorial garden - would have sat but oh so many insects about

empty sports fields

I think this is an early sign the tree is struggling with inside rot

a splash pad for the kids - the water comes out of the fish's mouth

empty swing set

so peaceful

very few water lilies in bloom

this looks out to the mobile home park off in the distance

the rather large root system

I like the extreme height of this old tree

oh come on - this is too early for a change of colour!

more empty space with an excellent walking track

old tree - fascinating bark

To walk in nature is seeing all the miracles of nature, to walk with a friend is sharing in another miracle.

Wisdom Wednesday

Don't ruin a good today by thinking about a bad yesterday.  Let it go.

Use These 7 Popular Balloon Release Alternatives

Personally, I struggle with this wisdom but I'm working on letting it go ... oh & I do not support actually releasing balloons, it's bad for the wildlife.

Me On A Monday - September 14th

Currently Enjoying: the prize I won in an online giveaway.  This painting was done by Jade, Abstract Pet a very talented artist.  I read Jade's sister's blog, Coffee on The Porch,  & Jenn posted info about her sister's new enterprise.  Jade does sketches, paintings & other crafts for animals so you know that got me immediately interested.  After announcing I'd won the draw, Jade asked me to send a photo of my pet.  I sent Jade a photo of one of my cats; a very special girl that has passed over the rainbow bridge & from that photo, Jade did the sketch/painting.  It's perfect, it captures my fur girl perfectly & what makes it so "alive" is the work Jade has done on the eyes - the windows to the soul.
This is the photo that the painting was done from

Currently Reading:  Louise Penny's latest, "All The Devils Are Here".  I say currently reading, I read once already & I am reading again, back to back, before I have to return to the library.

Currently Organizing:  an educational zoom meeting for members of my church with one of our county nurses on the subject of COVID-19 social bubbles.  I was rather discouraged & amazed how most of these folks did not understand or follow the government's recommended social bubbles guidelines.  Seeing how at risk many of our senior members were putting themselves, I decided to do something & I have a friend connection to the county nurse's office.  It was quite enlightening & I hope that this talk has made a difference to keep our members safe.

Currently Watching:  recommendations from our librarian; DCI Banks,(liking)  Law & Order UK (maybe go further).  We also tried Above Suspicion & Silent Witness.

As for TV, we did catch the new one from director Ridley Scott, a sci fi, Raised by Wolves - so far we have only seen the first 5 episodes. There are 5 to come.

It's Labour Day Monday, which is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers.  A special cheer to all those deemed as essential workers during this pandemic.

It's also the day Queen Elizabeth I was born in 1533.

I believe it's a day of celebration & one that requires cake!

Wednesday Wisdom

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”― Edmund Burke (in a letter addressed to Thomas Mercer).
Whilst men are linked together, they easily and speedily communicate the alarm of any evil design. They are enabled to fathom it with common counsel, and to oppose it with united strength. Whereas, when they lie dispersed, without concert, order, or discipline, communication is uncertain, counsel difficult, and resistance impracticable. Where men are not acquainted with each other’s principles, nor experienced in each other’s talents, nor at all practised in their mutual habitudes and dispositions by joint efforts in business; no personal confidence, no friendship, no common interest, subsisting among them; it is evidently impossible that they can act a public part with uniformity, perseverance, or efficacy. In a connection, the most inconsiderable man, by adding to the weight of the whole, has his value, and his use; out of it, the greatest talents are wholly unserviceable to the public. No man, who is not inflamed by vain-glory into enthusiasm, can flatter himself that his single, unsupported, desultory, unsystematic endeavours, are of power to defeat the subtle designs and united cabals of ambitious citizens. When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.
–Edmund Burke, Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents 82-83 (1770) in: Select Works of Edmund Burke, vol. 1, p. 146 (Liberty Fund ed. 1999).
