Me On A Monday - August 24th

Well there's more excitement to report on from the little village.

There's a film crew using our church for a wedding scene in an upcoming Christmas movie, (not Hallmark) which is good for the coffers of the church since takings, donations are down since the lock down of church services.  Of course the initial contact was all "it's perfect, it's just what we are looking for ..." then once contracts were signed, money deposited, it was "can we change this" ... first they wanted to remove 3 rows of pews; OK;  the choir stall was next to be removed.  The signs indicating that we are an Anglican faith based church have been changed to say Baptist.  They will all be put back to normal once filming is finished, this Friday.

The movie, while being filmed in Ontario, Canada is stand in for Georgia, US of A.   Because of the requirements of the pandemic Canadian quarantine laws, there are no American actors being used, it's all Canadian actors & mostly from Ontario.

But then the big ask came,  which was not within the church's power to grant; could they take down the Canadian, British & Ontario flags to put up the stars & stripes ... our flags are on poles that surround our cenotaph to honour those that fought & died in WWI, WWII,  which technically is not on church property although it fronts the church.  The mayor (who if you remember from last week's post is under criticism for the art installation on the trail) said an absolute NO.  Cheers from the community for the mayor. So not sure how that's going to be handled in the movie.

But I think the best news from all this excitement of movie making, is that they cleaned before filming & will clean after filming.  I don't think our little church has ever been so sanitized & scrubbed!  Oh & I really hope that we can keep this fabulous Nativity.

Our little village & our large beautiful conservation park has been used in films before along with music videos & lots of commercials.  A few of the films have been Agnes of God, Cheaper By The Dozen 1 & 2 (remake); Camp Rock 2; The Border; Virus; History of Violence; TV series: Reign; Murdoch Mysteries; The Jonas Brothers music video.

Wisdom Wednesday - August 19th

This piece of wisdom still has me pondering upon it ...

Me On A Monday - August 17th

Good Morning.  It's certainly a quiet time on the patio but off the patio, it's all a go about something in the little village:

The water is murky, long periods of heat has created prohibitive water to swim in.

The hounds are baying, the horses galloping, with the grain crops in, there's fields to roam for the hunt club but for some it's too early in the morning.

The T-rex are walking or waddling, I have no idea what T-rexes do.  I think there was laughter & no bitching complaints unless the Mother & Daughter's comments about the suits were too hot counts.

There are petitions to be signed; townsfolk are taking a stand against two art pieces installed, at tax payers expense, along our paved trail,  It is felt our water rates are too expensive & property taxes increase too much to "waste" on this .

I think I'll just stay home, with the doors & blinds closed & let the answer machine take messages.

“Ah! there is nothing like staying at home for real comfort. Nobody can be more devoted to home than I am.” – from the book Emma by Jane Austen

Wednesday Wisdom

Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Me On A Monday - August 10th

Good morning, & here we are again, quickly arriving at a beautiful summer Monday morning.  I hope that everyone is well.

Currently ReadingGrown Ups.  I'm just starting so haven't yet formed an opinion, but so far the first 50 pages are  drawing me in.  I've also read a couple of books that are centred on people moving far away & taking up a new life style.   One of the books, Bella Tuscany by Frances Mayes, was the sequel to  her book, Under the Tuscan Sun, of which a movie was made of.
Currently Watching: old movies & series that are of people up rooting to live a new life somewhere else (there's a theme here...); 1 was in Greece, 1 whole series is in France (Chateau restoration) & 1 in Italy.  Why is it that people seem to move to entirely different countries to find the life they really want?  Is it that the dream life requires a new language, a passport & trying to fit in with the locals?

Currently Feeling Socially Awkward:  we were invited to a party of some of Mr Man's business acquaintances.  It would be at someone's home, in their back garden, with access to the bathrooms inside the house.  Mr Man & I felt really awkward turning the invitation down but we are not prepared at this time to socialize with a large group of people - we don't know where these 15-20 people have been or who they are socializing with - not one of them are in our social (small) bubble & I doubt any of them are really in each other's social bubble.  The host of the party was not very receptive to our reasons for not wanting to attend.  Thankfully Mr Man & I are both in agreement to not attending.  I want to shout - COVID is still around - it loves attending parties where drinking & loud talking abound!  OK OK , everyone do you, I'll do me ...

Currently Enjoying:  Niagara region's finest - peaches.  So juicy & oh so tasty. I think I ate a dozen in two afternoons.  I cannot wait to pick up another dozen this Wednesday at the outdoor, socially distancing farmer's market.  Oh yes & the corn on the cob is ready as are the field tomatoes!!!  So blessed to live in an abundantly rich farming community.

Currently Marveling At: my healthy glow, having spent the last 10 afternoons pool side.  My friend that I cat/house/plant sit for, went to her cottage & left me full access to her pool & gardens.  It was bliss, it was like a vacation for us.

I developed a routine of taking all the pool noodles & wrapping myself in them so I could just drift & hang in the water & just watch the light dance in the water.
I read lots & wrote lots, (morning pages) while sitting pool side. While drifting in the pool, I would cloud watch & wonder about that one jet plane that would fly overhead at the same time each day - where are you going ?  I enjoyed a few glasses of Sangria, ate lots of cheddar whole wheat sun chips.  Mr Man & I had many relaxing "what's next" chats for us. No decisions, but we tossed out lots of ideas.  None would require our passports or to learn a new language, although we should sharpen up our French, we are a dual language country after all.
