Me On A Monday - August 29th

Good Morning, I trust everyone is doing well & enjoyed a good weekend.  I am enjoying the self seeded Cosmos blooming in the patio garden & oh my, are they tall & abundant.  There are two clumps that seeded themselves from last year's Cosmos. As the blooming progressed, the hot pink blooms became the prominent colour.

Currently Listening: to Joshua Becker, The Minimalist, uTube talks about using & being part of social media.  I know that our good blog friend, Susanne over at Snaps & Snippets also mentioned this uTube in her August 22nd post.  As usual, Joshua, who has great hair, made some really interesting points. IMO His 10 rules for using social media make a lot of sense; not sure I currently adhere to all these guidelines as yet, but my goal is to make more of an effort.  I think #1 applies to my use of our community F/B groups as I tend to scroll through days of missed posts. No more, I give it 5 minutes, tops, to read & then close it down. I like #5 & #8, being that #8 is that you don't say as a faceless keyboard warrior what you wouldn't say in person.  #10!

🌸1. Jump in, jump out  🌸2 Create don’t just consume 🌸3 use platforms you enjoy the most  🌸 4 change the culture of social media rather then been change by it 🌸5 take an extended break   🌸6 don’t compare your worst to their best 🌸7 read more then headlines (my note is to beware of click bait headlines)  🌸8 keep the same standards online as you do in person 🌸9 seek to understand those with different opinions   🌸10 privacy is still nice, so keep boundaries of what you choose to share or not share online.

Currently Reading: I am currently into book 8 of a series; Dr Ruth Galloway, written by Elly Griffith.  I am enjoying this series of light murder mysteries, although I must admit to being just a little annoyed at times with the main character, Dr Ruth Galloway, Archeologist; I've been heard to remark out loud, "oh for heaven's sake, Ruth, don't do that" much to Mr Man's shock/amusement.  There are currently 14 books in the series.  It was my Louise Penny Fandom F/B page that recommended the series while we all wait for Louise's latest release in November.  I am #1 on the library request list.

I've just finished a book that Karen at Random Reflections recommended to me in a comment to one of my Me On A Monday posts (thank you Karen).  Deb at Deb' s World , August 23rd post, also read & reviewed; The Measure by Nikki Erlick.  The Measure is Nikki's debut novel.  I would recommend this book.  I don't want to say too much so as not to give it all away, but at page 256, paragraph 7,  I let out an audible sob - this caught me in a way I wasn't expecting & I've re-read that paragraph several times, which made me teary. I cared about all the characters in this book & I liked how connections were made to each character.

Currently WatchingHouse of The Dragon, for us, is on Crave TV, started on the 21st & I am invested in this 10 episoide series. We signed up for this extra channel just for this series & will cancel once the last dragon flies.  To get our monies worth of this TV subscription, we also watch; Belfast; The Eyes of Tammy Faye & Downton Abbey-The New Era.  We were not impressed with Belfast or D.A.'s New Era, although Maggie Smith was true to her character & was fabulous. Tammy Faye, while I am sure a white wash of her life, had surprisingly good acting, Jessica Chastain was fantastic & deserved her Oscar (IMO).

And I will leave you with this thought ... while I cannot save the world, I will savor as much as I can each day   ... me paraphrasing EB White.

Wisdom

Yesterday is history.

Tomorrow is a mystery.

Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present.

... and on that note I'm giving my self the gift of time for my birthday week, to enjoy all those that are present in my life, they are a gift, or it really is my circus & those are all my clowns!  I'll see you on back here on the 29th!

Me On A Monday - August 15th

Good Morning. I trust all is well with everyone.

Right now I'm all about comparing the growth of the corn crop behind us.

Corn is considered a hot crop & with it comes its own heat wall.  During the many days & weeks of high heat & humidity, this wall of corn added to the extra dryness in our garden, as corn does take a lot of moisture/water.  Just standing & taking the recent photos, I felt the radiating heat from the corn.

Me On A Monday - August 8th

A friend sent this screen shot to me as she felt it applied to me - ha ha ha, but it does speak volumes of truth!

I've been very busy clearing out lots of old project crafting stuff & my resolve not to buy anything new is holding strong.  Having unsubscribed to many of the crafting companies email notifications has really helped with battling FOMO, especially during "Christmas in July" campaigns.  I also got very determined & cancelled my membership to a stamping company & I've let my card making monthly subscription end - although there are a few months still left on the subscription.  Surprisingly this has been very freeing & has opened up space to create.  Before when looking for something, I'd get very guilt ridden & over whelmed with all the choice.  I was also encouraged by all the excitement going on at the vacation bible school crafting tent with my three boxes of donations.

But do not fear, I still have years of supplies for both my crafting enjoyment possibilities of scrapping & card making .
