Memo, Mail & Me: It's Monday July 3rd

Good morning & hello to any of those still doing a Monday check in. While our official Monday Memos hostess, Sian, is taking a summer break.
Winter Wheat - looking right.  It is one of my favourite fields to look at

It's a holiday Monday (in lieu of, since Canada Day was on a Saturday).

We had a wonderful Saturday celebrating Canada Day in spite of the weather.  It has rained every day since my last Monday check in.  The dosing of rain on Saturday did come at the right time as it put out the small bonfire we had at the church for marshmallow roasting.   All the church bells were rung at 1:50pm, playing O'Canada - it brought a tear to many an eye.  Fireworks were amazing.

At home we had maple leaf cookie decorating - can you tell the difference between the girl team & the boy team?  We also had burgers (both beef & veggie) shaped like maple leaves.

Since it's a holiday there is no mail today & last week's mail was just flyers & not even those were worth reading!

I have hired two new ladies for the reception positions soon to be vacated, so training begins week of July 10th for one & July 17th for another.  I am feeling positively drained from resume reading & interviewing.  I had one applicant that had an appointment Friday at 9am - she called at 9am to say she had slept in & could we scheduled later.  I said if you can't show up for the interview what makes you think I would have confidence in your showing up for the job!  Bye bye ...

I hope everyone has a fabulous week ahead & Happy Independence Day on the 4th to my American friends.

  1. Good morning, Mary-Lou. I am seriously disheartened when I read about the work ethic of some of our young people. I'm glad you did not give her a second chance. Funny comparison between those cookies! -Jenn

    1. I am continually amazed at people. In the end all the cookies tasted the same (col).

  2. Maple leaf burgers sound quite a challenge! Can't believe how some people behave over job interviews. Very disheartening! Have a good week.

    1. I even brushed the beef burgers & salmon patties with maple syrup.

  3. The idea of ringing the church bells all together is wonderful. And so are the biscuits - both versions (and I would eat either!).

    1. I ate far too many cookies that day. I think the ringing of the bells at the end of service on Sunday is my favourite part! Bells, while loud, do not have that manufactured sound of a blaring car radio ... I'll say no more.

  4. Do hope the weather has picked up for you! What an amazing sound the church bells must have made!

    1. Over the last two days I have been able to use the term, glorious summer days ... it seems to be fewer & fewer churches ringing their bells with any regular schedule :(

  5. Glad you had a good Canada Day! I giggled when I saw the cookies; very familiar but I'm happy to let go of the decorating at Christmas time and let my husband and granddaughter do their thing!
