Me On Monday - March 16th

Source: Internet

Good Morning Everyone.  I do hope everyone is well.

Currently Reading:  Just finished reading My Oxford Year, a recommendation from Ruth (thank you).  It's an easy & enjoyable read, & it has me now wanting to read Middlemarch, which will fulfill the 2020 Reading Challenge of reading a classic you have missed from school.  I cannot get at the moment as the library is closed until April 6th.

Currently Crafting:  I made some cards & I'm working on a scrapbook double page spread to record this pandemic of COVID-19.  I've had this sheet of a world map for a few years, now I have a perfect use for it.  I've downloaded some stats from Health Canada to include in the journaling part.

Some of my cards:
It's Pink - so my favourite
I will be stamping the sentiment in the white circle; maybe Thanks maybe Happy Birthday
I
Needs something in the middle of the circle

Not sure, but I think the die cut of Celebrate down the red

Currently Watching:  way too much TV, but with all this social distancing being encouraged, there's only so much spring cleaning, crafting or reading you can do or want to do. I am breaking out all of my Downton Abby series 1-6, then The Forsyte Saga, Series 1 & 2. There's also several museums offering free virtual tours, so I may go traveling this way.

Currently Wondering:  if after all this social distancing, cancellation of trips, events & encouragement to be home, will there be a spike in the birth rate in 9 months?  Cornials?

Currently Very Proud:  that a Canadian team of medical researchers have isolated the Corniavirus-COVID19 virus.  This is huge. You can read more here:  CTV News.ca/health/coronavirus/canadian-scientists.   There's also a team at the University of Saskatchewan working & gaining success on creating a vaccine.  The researchers that had success in isolating the actual COVID-19 virus had a team member that worked on the Coronavirus-MERS, so lots of experience.  The team is saying one thing they have learned about COVID-19, is that it's a sticky virus.

Currently  Hoping:  The three weeks of recommended/encouraged social distancing will help "flatten the curve" of infection.  I think this S/D will impact the last of my WPSH finds, I may have to get really creative at home to find.  How are you doing with your WPSH finds?

Stay healthy my friends, stay 1.3 meters away from people.

  1. That's fantastic news about the researchers isolating the virus. That's a massive step forward ... Well done Canada!

Unless I can get out in the next couple of days I doubt I will finish the WPSH this year unless I have s brainwave and can think of ideas for taking the missing photos at home.

    Stay safe xx

    1. Have you thought of extending the deadline for WPSH by 2 weeks? I have taken liberty with finds vs list (lol). As the researchers are saying, it's a team effort & all data for all countries gets shared with WHO.

  2. All schools here are closed. The decent employers with capability have instituted work from home - some employers are still requiring folks to be in the office though. Non-essential businesses have the option of being open/closed. My gym is open but I'm choosing not to go. Will work out here at home. Just doing my bit to flatten the curve.

    1. I agree Cheri we will ALL have to do our part in this, it's not forever, it's just for the next few weeks to get a head of the spread.

  3. We have our first two confirmed cases up here in the Grey Bruce area. We are choosing to stay at home, and of course, my school is closed for the two weeks after March break. Son's courses for college are now online and he's going to drive down there today to completely empty out his dorm room. Daughter's university courses are all online. I do wonder if elementary / highschool will indeed re-open on Apr. 6th. Take care and enjoy your scrapbooking! -Jenn

    1. OH NO - were those two travelling? I am sure you are feeling a little better knowing that your two students are home. I doubt very much that schools will be back Apr 6th - people just aren't getting this social distancing & are still trying to carry on - that Univ of Waterloo is begging the students NOT to street party for the 17th.

  4. Let's hope isolating the virus is the start of a positive chain of events to bring a vaccine into production. It is hard to comprehend how quickly our lives are having to change! We can all only follow sensible precautions and all do our bit to trying to contain it. Staying home, reading and scrapbooking is a good place to start!

    1. If only people were getting & acting on the social distancing. Italy was told but they didn't believe or act accordingly & now they are having a very high rate of infection & death. People this is serious. Our PM is having a press conference at 1pm & I hope it's to announce the closing of international flights for a period of 3-4 weeks - all the increase in infections is because of international travelers returning home.

  5. It's really heartwarming to know just how many talented people are working towards a vaccine.
We're waiting for the next round of statements from the government ...

    1. SO many unsung heroes in the research end of this along with all the front line workers. Our PM is going to loose his seat over this because he is just SO ineffective - it's the provincial leaders that are taking the lead. More has to be done immediately.

  6. Middlemarch has been one of my favorites through the years. I hope you like it. Social Distancing should help if we'll do it. That's exciting news from the research front!

    1. I hope "we" get how really serious this is. I think what all countries fear is the medical systems will be over run. It seems like a good social test to see how we react with all this information. I think we are proving we wouldn't be able to handle the truth about Area 51.

    2. lol! Yes, Area 51 might be too much to handle. I've been seeing photos of the crowds at Clearwater, Florida, and I'm thinking, "Go _home_, people!" Nobody listens to me...

    4. It's ignorance, I think, for people traveling and congregating in groups. As for the lack of leadership, we're just getting more of what we've been seeing all along.

  7. Wonderful news about the research!! So many people working around the world for a vaccine, hopefully all collaborating & sharing. We definitely need to applaud those working on this & keep praying they will stay healthy as they work!

All schools around here are closed, many city facilities and the library, mandatory state testing for all grades has been waived for the year.

Robbie and I are staying at home, he's working virtually and I'm scrapbooking, reading, etc. The pantry is stocked (not overstocked from impulse buying) and there's lots of adhesive & pretty paper to work with. You can find me in my craft room. :)

    1. Cheers to companies that get it & are allowing/insisting employees work from home. The universities are all making the course work available online - cheers to technology. Let's all keep connecting through positive social media updates with the mantra Facts Not Fear.

  8. Our county was very proactive, and banned all events with more than 50 people early in the week. We now have 10 confirmed cases in our county. All schools are closed indefinitely, as is our church. We've given up on the gym---way too risky in my opinion, but we've taken to walking outside every day after lunch. Need to get on my stretching routine at home. I've started a bit of crafting, have done a bit of reading, and made some soup. Seems like the days are going by without my feeling terribly productive. Hope that will change soon. Expect to be pretty confined to home for several weeks. Keeping the researches, health card workers, and others on the front lines in my prayers!

    1. I think there is a low level of anxiety that saps the energy. I too have been having 1-2 daily walks outside in the fresh air. As part of our church's pastoral care team, we are reaching out to our members regularly so no one feels isolated & left out, especially now that the church has closed all programs for several weeks. I'm glad to hear that people are taking this virus threat seriously. All this could be temporary if we all work together - keeping apart!

    1. Thanks Tracy. Once I get into card making, my mind settles & I feel calmer. I'm on a news restricted diet for a few days.
