Me On A Monday - July 12th

Good Morning.  The weekend was a mix of weather, Saturday was a beautiful summer day - thank you Mother Nature.  Sunday was damp, overcast. We have a rain forecast for the next 4 days!

Currently Crafting:  using up some of my paper stash; getting out some of my Christmas stamps & using some new to me dies of stitched flowers, all to make a page about summer in my garden.  The Christmas stamp set had the phrase "It's the best time of the year" which can be for anything really. The circle journal spot was accented with orange flowers, I am not a fan of the colour orange, so I covered over with shades of pink since the co-coordinating paper had lots of pink & yellow flowers on it.

Currently On Track: to keep myself on track with meal planning, I pulled out two pads that make it fun, pretty & easy to plan.

Currently Re-Reading: Louise Penny's last book, "The Devils Are All Here".  It's the paperback version which I got to make up some numbers in Mr Man's most recent Amazon order.  I was quite pleased that the paperback version has a few pages from her latest book, due to be released August 24th, "The Madness of Crowds".  The title certainly fits for the current world situation.

Currently In The Shopping Basket:  When all stores could re-open a few weeks back, one of the first stores I visited in person was a dollar type store (pound shop).  They have a two aisle area for scrap booking & sometimes there are some good deals.  I found several packages of pandemic related stickers! Score for the Pandemic Scrapbook.

Currently Watching: we loaded up on some library DVDs. A new to us series, Brokenwood, a most delightful police drama from New Zealand.  Mr Man & I are both smitten with the characters & the landscape & very glad there are 6 seasons to enjoy. I highly recommend this series.  The fictional town of Brokenwood is filmed in Warkworth near Auckland.  One of the episodes is about wine growing in New Zealand & the featured medal winning wine was a chardonnay, so for the next series we have ordered ourselves a bottle of a "cheeky" chardonnay from New Zealand's (note; OM goodness are New Zealand wines ever expensive! - it better be out of this world delicious at these prices). Not sure what foods to serve while we watch, while Mr Man enjoys lamb, I do not.  I wonder if a kiwi pavlova would suffice or maybe a kiwi burger (yes it's a thing)?

We also got the first series of Land Girls; we are not so smitten.  The story of Land Girls intrigued me after one of the Foyle's War episodes.  I don't think this series will satisfy the itch for knowledge.

We also got series 5 of Line of Duty ... this series just keeps building on greatness.  I knew Gill was bad news!  I still think Hastings is hiding more than naughty girly films on his computer!

Currently Sports Watching:  IMO, when the national anthem for both countries are being played, I thought it rather un-sportsmen like & quite rude, as the host country, to boo another team's national anthem.

... and life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, but learning how to dance in the rain.

  1. I'm a fan of the Brokenwod Mysteries. I don't now whether I've seen them all as they seem to repeat the same couple of series over and over again, but I do like the characters and the humour.

Is the pump in the first photo in your garden? If it is I am green with envy ... been looking for ages for one to have in mine!

The pandemic stickers were a good find.

    1. Yes the pump is one of two in my garden. This pump is in a large barrel & the blue, blue/white flowers I hope make it look like water ... the other pump is just sitting in the garden, it was originally in my Foster Mom's garden & when she sold up last year to move to a retirement home, her garden there did not have room. My plan is to use for an actual water feature.

  2. I'm pleased you managed to find some new supplies which will be very appropriate for scrapbook pages relating to the last 18 months, who knew there would ever be a market for stickers in the shape of face masks?!
I won't comment too much on the sports game that you refer to, but when our players had played so well and with dignity, it is such a shame that certain elements of the crowd let them down.

    1. Yes I've read that some of the fans for England have been rather naughty in their behaviour. Shining a green laser light is not only dangerous, it could have cost the team the game in league penalties. The Montreal hockey fans were shameful in their behaviour, destroying cars, windows of businesses, rioting, burning! I do understand enthusiasm, but not that. I'll say no more for now.

  3. Yes it's been fun to discover pandemic-friendly scrapbook supplies, especially at a reasonable price. :)

The booing of the anthems has been appalling - what's happened to respect for others? The taking of a knee also seems to attract unpleasant responses from the crowd. As I tell The Boy, the people who behave like that are not true fans or supporters of our national team, they're yobs who happen to have acquired a ticket.
And now this morning I'm hearing that the 3 young lads who missed their penalties have been subjected to hideous racist abuse on social media ...

    1. What is wrong with the fans - it has become a mob mentality. I like your description of the less than fans, yobs! I cannot abide racist, religious, cultural abuse for anyone for anything. They missed a penalty shot, maybe question their skill, not their race. Or maybe better yet, forget about it & move on. I do get fired up at this & it is the bane of social media.

  4. We are up to date with both Brokenwood and Line of Duty. We have recently re-watched the first two seasons of Unforgotten because we saw that season 4 is now being aired on PBS. I don't know when it will come to our streams, but I am sure that it will find its way. For me, Unforgotten is pretty close to the top as it tends to avoid tired devices such as two people, one a cop, staring at each other and telling each other t put their guns down.

    1. HaHa ... put your gun down (please) yes it is the theme isn't it. Good news about Unforgotten, we really like that show.

  5. I've enjoyed Brokenwood Mysteries. There are so many choices for TV watching these days. It's hard to have sympathy for the England fans in their loss when their behavior has been what it was. The garden photo at the top of the post is pretty.

    1. I was cheering for England, I think the team was a class act. A few really bad fans ruin it for the others. I just saw that officials worry for rising domestic abuse after a game & they fear especially after this game loss. I cannot repeat what my first reaction was to that. I am sure that this is the case anywhere, but really guys, it's a game & you beat your family over it ... society is doomed.

  6. I love that picture of the pump with the blue flowers under it! I wish you could share some of your rain with us! We have been asked to voluntarily cut back on our water use by 15% due to our current drought. What that means for me is reducing the watering of the garden! Back to selective watering of fruit trees and vegetables, over flowers and ornamentals. :(

Those Covid stickers are such a great find!

    1. Oh Bless I am sorry to hear about the drought conditions. We were in that last summer, so the rain is definitely one of those mixed blessings. I can see where you watering the food producers is a priority. I use water from our dehumidifier to water the flower pots during times of less than average rain fall.

  7. Thanks for reminding me about "Brokenwood." I watched a few episodes but got sidetracked by other series. I really enjoyed it and will add it to my list in place of a trip to New Zealand. Alas!

    1. Thanks for popping by. We have also been doing a lot of travel this last 17 months via DVDs from the library. We have also done travel via the food to match the movie, ie Under the Tuscan Sun with "nice lasagna" .
