Me On A Mondy - July 19th

Good Morning One & All.

Currently SPSH: when I was reviewing the list, I saw Marie Kondo moment (or not); which had me looking at my previous attempts, especially the t-shirt rolling to tidy up the drawer.  Instead, I ended up pulling out everything from my closet, sorting & thinning out.  Two large bags later, ready for donations, I feel I have achieved my Marie Kondo moment again.  All the blouses are lined up in colour  with sub sorting of solid or print & sleeve length.  I still have to re-tackle the rolls of t-shirts which have seemed to collapsed within the drawer into one big pile of material!  I am sure that Ms Kondo would be asking me if I really need all those white blouses ... I'll say no more for now & yes I took photos.

Currently Reading:  I just finished The Good Sister.  Oh my, I will never complain about my sisters again after reading this.  Well written but in the end as things were revealed it made me so beyond sad, it made me angry, so I'm not going to say I enjoyed the book.  Also the author gave some background as to what inspired her to write the book ... she needs to start working with a therapist for her two daughter's relationship, IMO.  I also read Jennifer Weiner's latest, That Summer.  That's now two books I've read of Jennifer's & I don't think we will be getting together on any more; her books are not my type of a good read. I do find her to be hilarious in interviews & enjoy those chats but I have not had any warm fuzzies after reading two of her books.

Currently Watching:  we are very excited that Unforgotten's latest series is now playing on PBS, a channel we get & I almost got caught out missing the first episode.  Thank goodness for repeat of Sunday PBS shows on the following Wednesday.

We got Manhunt, starring Martin Clunes on DVD from the library.  We enjoyed this & it's based on a true story of a murder in England in 2004 which in solving that particular crime went on to solve two other murders & an attempted murder by the same man.  In the extras on the DVD the producer said that the show when shown in Britain in 2018 brought several other victims forward.  It was refreshing to see Martin in a serious role. We have enjoyed many of Martin's specials.  I know he's a favourite for many in Doc Martin.  This is not a show we enjoy, neither Mr Man or I like the supporting characters & usually if we don't like the friends, we don't like the show.  On request we have Martin Clunes & The Australian Islands.

Currently Cleaning: we have a large indoor/outdoor carpet on the patio, which helps to define the sitting area.  This week we noticed that with all the rain & overcast days, there's a green mould developing on two corners that don't get a lot of what sunshine there is.  Etch!!  We sprayed with white vinegar to kill the mould & now we will have to power wash to clean.  We have to be very careful when spraying the vinegar that we don't walk on the carpet & then walk on the grass; made that mistake last year & we had several foot prints of dead grass & clover.  We power wash on the driveway so no plants or grass are harmed.

Currently In The Shopping Basket: nothing other than food & boy did I get a shock on the prices increasing at an alarming rate.  Mr Man enjoys bacon & I get him an easy to prepare pre-cooked, salt reduced no name brand, which the last time I bought in May was $4.49. I went to order for this week & it was now $7.49!  It is not in the basket this week.  Are you noticing a significant rise in food prices?

... and I'll leave you with this thought .... all my passwords are protected by amnesia.

  1. Glad you are catching Unforgotten. I liked Manhunt too, but I am also ok with Doc Martin. Some of those offbeat shows bother me, but tis one doesn't really. Hard to explain.

    1. We have a few friends that adore Doc Martin ... but isn't this what makes the world such an interesting place?! Unforgotten is so well acted, great story & character development. I like how they show how connected people & events are.

  2. Yes, I've noticed some sharp price increases of late. I've also noticed a fair few empty shelves, which is apparently a result of too many employees being pinged by the Test and Trace app and required to self-isolate ...

    1. I found out only from seeing it in the papers, about a few employees testing positive in grocery stores. We do not have a test & trace app or if we do, it is certainly not prompted. :( There's a few treats we aren't going to be enjoying as often as they too have risen dramatically in pricing ... alas my paycheque hasn't risen to keep pace.

  3. I flipped out at our usual fruit and veg place at the price increases. I then found better prices and local produce elsewhere. Won't be going back to the other place soon.

    1. We are fortunate to have more than one source for fruite & veg. I am thankful for our local farmer's markets and/or road side stands, but even those are creeping up in price. Just a fact of life in 2021. But between a fresh head of lettuce & a bag of chips, I'll always choose the lettuce :)

  4. I don't recall watching Manhunt so it's one to add to the list. There's supposed to be a second series being released this year. I do like Martin Clunes and used to watch the earlier series of Doc Martin but ... just got a bit bored with it. I felt it was one of those programmes that just went on for too long.

Prices are definitely rising here, partly due to the pandemic but also as a result of Brexit, despite Boris' promises.

Hope you have a good week.

    1. I think it is all of the lockdowns & people isolating so not enough folks in the labour force. I just don't know how a young family with 2-3 kids can afford to eat healthy. Oh I'd watch a season 2 of Manhunt.

  5. I love purging - good for you sorting out your clothes (but I'm not a Marie Kondo fan- she's a bit over the top). Yes, I've noticed grocery prices rising throughout the past year and a bit. -Jenn

    1. Purging feels good, I just wish doing the purging in other areas was as rewarding as cleaning out the closet. I was hoping prices for fresh fruit & veg at local farmer's stands would be cheaper, alas rising prices are every where :( I'll need to get a paper route soon!

  6. I was also thrilled to see the next season of Unforgotten but am a bit confused as to the main character's new "love interest" Was he introduced in an earlier season?

    1. Cassie's boyfriend is from Season 3, he's DCI John Bentley who worked on the originally investigation into the death of Hayley, the missing/murder girl.

  7. Well done on your Marie Kondo moment! I wish I could get motivated to clean out my closet!

Yes, grocery prices are definitely going up, here, too. I have been trying to shop the sales, but, even the sale prices are higher than they were before.

Oh, I like your thoughts at the end! Yes, my passwords are definitely protected by amnesia! :D

    1. I need to have a few more M K moments. Although I don't quite agree on all her methods or thoughts about sorting & decluttering. I'll give the rolled t-shirts another go but so far that method isn't working for me. I understand that the farmers are having to pay higher wages for pickers & farm labour, so I guess that could be a major reason, so few are willing to do the intense labour of farming.

  8. Marie Kondo was a big help to me especially with books. I still take her philosophy to heart when I'm putting things away.

Food prices are outrageous! Or at least the rate of rise is certainly a shock. Grocery trips cost more every week.

    1. I think if food prices continue at this climb of price increases, we are going to have to take turns eating or maybe just eat twice a day.

  9. Yes, I'm definitely seeing an increase in the grocery bill. The bulk of my shopping cart is produce, and the prices at the local farm market are even higher than the grocery store. Fortunately, our grocery store carries a wide variety of quality produce. Strangely, blueberries (which Tracy has on his cereal every day) were the lowest price in months this week. All my reading recently has been for my book groups and study group. I have two "fun" books I'm hoping to get to soon. I've had no luck with the MK rolling of t-shirts-they never seem to line up the way they are supposed to.

    1. I think the food warehouse people are using the pandemic as an excuse to gouge our pocketbooks. I'm adjusting my shopping & thankfully I can now go into the warehouse (not Costco) type of grocery store where prices are usually much cheaper. My t-shirt rolling isn't proving to be very successful, I may abandon this aspect of MK's style of organizing ... although t-shirts rolled don't crease as bad.

  10. I have to admit to looking up who Marie Kondo was as I had no idea what she did!!
It's such a shame that businesses feel the need to put up prices. I will shop around and look for cheaper options before paying over the odds.

    1. So now you know the famous Marie Kondo (col). Some of our farmers markets are more expensive that the chain stores & that to me just isn't right.

  11. I watched Manhunt. Don't remember a thing about it, other than that I enjoyed it. I watch Doc Martin too. A bit of nonsense but it is not pretending to be anything it isn't, and it amuses me. Also like the scenery.

I'm wondering whether I can use vinegar as a weedkiller now. Haven't really noticed too much of an increase in food bills, but they are talking about bringing in higher taxes on salt and sugar so maybe I should stock up on the latter for future jams!

    1. Let's hope no increases on tea or there will be a revolution! I find white vinegar an excellent weed killer but do be careful as it will kill anything it touches, I've built little cones to put around my plants when I spray the vinegar near by weeds. Oh yes the scenery in Doc Martin is magnificent, it could be its own story character.

  12. Snap! I was also going to use my drawer of rolled-up T-shirts as my Marie Kondo moment and have also found that it has collapsed into a total mess. I will try to rearrange it in time for a photo next month...
I have a long way to go to match your tidy closet (or wardrobe, as we quaintly say here in the UK...)
Thank you for your inspirational words.
I have not noticed price rises like that here, but a few shortages - "they" are blaming a lack of truck drivers because of Covid quarantine and the fact that after Brexit all our great European drivers went home.
    All the best :)
