Me On A Monday - June 27th

Good Morning.  This side of the pond we experienced an extremely hot & humid weekend.  On Saturday our outside temperature gauges registered +33 (c) & with humidity it was +39 (c). I, several times, gave thanks for air conditioning.  We have had no rain in over 10 days!

Look At All Those Promises of New Blooms on my Clematis

Currently Reading: Deb, at Deb's World blog, had recommended Veronica Henry's recent book, The Impulse Purchase; my library's 4 copies were all signed out, so I'm on the waitlist.  The library system however recommended "while you wait" one of Veronica's earlier books, "How to Find Love In A Bookshop".  I am really enjoying it. Within the first few lines I wanted to know more & why a lead character was in the situation he was in, by page 69 I was caring about several of the main characters. I like this author's writing style, so I'll be looking for more by her.  Thanks Deb! Thanks library system 📖

Currently In The Know:  the neighbours who sold their house, confirmed who has purchased the house; a retired couple & the move in date is end of August.  😊

Current Update: Not sure if anyone noticed, I've made an update to my blog - I've added a widget on the right hand side, regarding the honouring of the ancestral lands on which I reside. After taking Univ of BC's  (Indigenous)Truth & Reconciliation course, I'm working on my personal reconciliation work & this for me is a step towards that; every meeting I attend in Zoom or in person, starts with this or a similar statement.  So many things yet to do.  🙌

Currently In The News:  so many things in the news, most of it not good, most of it upsetting ... makes me glad once again to be living in Canada, & not because we are perfect, or haven't got lots of things to fix and/or work on,  but we do have our Charter of Rights in place & there are things in it, that specifically protect my rights as a woman.  I'll say no more for now, other that on Friday, July 1st we will be celebrating Canada Day.  Let the red & white fly high with pride ... 🇨🇦

And I will leave you with this thought ... "there's no angry way to say bubbles."

  1. I'm pleased you enjoyed the other VH book - I bought it for my sister recently and she really enjoyed it too.
What an interesting land you live in - so much history, I am sure that the more you learn, the more fascinating you find it.
Oh, the news from the US is grim isn't it? It feels like they have taken a massive leap back in time.

    1. I read an article that the extreme right wing party of the states has played this & other changes to come, as the long game. It is very scary what's coming next. Canada does have a varied history, some of it not good, some of it quite worth the celebrations. We've done the acknowledgement work, now is the time to show the apology is meant & move forward & not sit in the past.

  2. You just seem to have extremes of temperatures! Lovely as Canada is, I couldn't cope with all the snow in the winter or the high heat in the summer. I'll wish you a Happy Canada Day for Friday. Are you planning to do anything special to celebrate?

    1. No plans for anything specific, to celebrate Canada Day other than decorating ourselves in red & white. I usually plan a meal around foods that are grown in each province, things like a beef steak for Mr Man from the west (Alberta), salmon from the east coast, perogies (very large Ukrainian population in Manitoba & Saskatchewan), apple pie with maple syrup from Quebec ...

  3. I read How to Find Love in a Bookshop back in 2017 (and have reread since then): https://thiswestlondonlife.com/2017/01/12/currently-reading/

I noticed your statement in the top corner of your blog. We can't change history, but we can both acknowledge it and learn from it.

    1. It seems that sometimes we get stuck in the apology mode & forget to move on. History cannot be rewritten, often it is bad enough that happened the first time, let's not live there now. I'll go back & re-read your post about Love in the bookshop ... :)

  4. Good for you for the statement. I have one, as well. It was a hot one. Just awful working outside. I gave up working!

    1. I saw yours which was actually my kick in the butt to get going on mine. I used, with a few tweaks, the Univ of Guelph & the Wellington Health board statement used at the start of any meeting or Zoom.

  5. I like your statement and I think it is wonderful that you have included it on your blog. As for the news, I can only shake my head in disbelief. Keep cool in that hot weather! We reached 100F, today. Very little humidity, of course, but no a/c, either. :)

    1. Thanks Bless. For Canada's work with Truth & Reconciliation with our Indigenous population it does fall to each individual to do the work. We can no longer just read about it & expect the government to do everything. I read that the Republican party was working on this & other changes to come about birth controls & same sex marriages as the long game, chipping away at it slowly but methodically. I was also very surprised that your constitution has no provisions/protection in it for women. That needs to change quickly, IMO

  6. Yes, thanks for AC; it was a very hot weekend. I have liked every American that I have met, but Oh my goodness, what an effed up country in has become.

    1. I have/had several relatives that are American and/or live in the states & they are wondering about trading in & come to/come back to Canada. I just wonder if they have the "heart" to change & stand up for what's right, not easy, but right.

  7. The plight of indigenous peoples is hard to come to terms with, and it's difficult to know what to do.

I looked into immigrating to Canada; y'all don't want us ;) The hearing today included some shocking revelations. And yet I don't expect trump to face legal consequences. I don't know whether to scream or cry. I won't be throwing dishes.

    1. It seems right now that if you are screaming it is into a void. I keep thinking about that Jeff Daniel's speech from the TV show The Newsroom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIpKfw17-yY

    2. Oh, thank you for that powerful statement. I'm not familiar with that show but will get familiar, and I'm sharing this link on FB. Again, that you!

  8. I'm clearly behind in my blog reading, and to my dismay, the news here just gets worse and worse. It's hard not to be angry all the time, but that's futile. I'm writing letters, contacting representatives, and doing what little I can. Hard to believe where we've ended up and fearful about what's to come. I, too, am grateful for the library. I picked up three novels today, and am hoping one of them captures my attention. Maybe it's the news, but I've had a hard time finding something I want to stick with. Putting the titles you mentioned on my list.

    1. I have a relative coming "home" to Canada this week, she lives just outside of Atlanta & she's a die hard Trump fan & in the past we have not been "allowed" to discuss with her anything to do with Jan 6th, it will be interesting this trip to see where any discussions go. The other relative in California has such a different attitude & thought process. Thankfully they never come home at the same time. Books for me have been a balm to my spirit, they take me away from all the woes of the world; books seem to solve many more problems that in real life :(
