Take Three Thursday - Patience Sees Red

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Three Thursday.   The idea is to take 1 - 3 photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in.    What have you noticed this week?

This week I have been most fortunate that my patience has paid off.  The very nervous male cardinal that visits my garden & feeder, finally has enough confidence in me not to fly too far if I'm in the garden.  Earlier this week I saw him in the garden, I quickly crept outside with camera & stood very still for the longest time so that he would return to the feeder.

He first landed at the bottom of the garden on the fence & he sang a little. I thought oh aren't you gorgeous, but not a muscle moved nor a sound did I make.

He bravely then landed on one of the big rocks, OK this is going well, be still be still.

Next he flew the closest he has ever been while I'm in the garden - to the ground below the feeder.  I just about squealed with joy.  He enjoyed some of the past their sell by date cranberries I had thrown out earlier along with the nuts & seed of the blend I buy.

Such a magnificent bird with one of the most beautiful songs.
It is true, small joys are every where, we just have to be open to see them.

    1. I've been trying for ages to be outside with camera in hand as the same time he feeds. Luck prevails & truly I did not draw breathe for several moments.

    1. Thanks Eileen - the closest I could get was maybe 20-25 feet from him - truly a nervous bird.

  3. We have a beautiful red cardinal who feeds in our front yard daily. Last night during dinner, I looked out and he and his female partner were perched on the largest of our bird feeders. If I stand up to take a photo, all the birds fly off in an instant!

    1. The cardinals have the most beautiful song & I hear long before I see. I don't think I've ever seen such a people nervous type of bird. My Blue Jays are bold & even knock on the window for peanuts!

    1. I'm sure there are many unseen in my neighourhood, I hear on my walks. I have been buying the expensive "Cardinal Blend" trying to encourage more. Soon the hummingbirds & Orioles will be back - must get their food perseverance ready. Yesterday we sighted one of the Ospreys back on their nest - it must be spring!

    1. Cardinals have a very distinct song & often I hear when walking - usually perched at the highest point in any tree.

  6. Seeing your pics makes me realise how different our worlds are in some ways. I'd be truly shocked to see anything of the sort outside my window. Glad you got the long-awaited shots at last!

    1. I am most hopeful that as the season progresses he'll be calm around me so I can get closer photos. Mrs Cardinal is now visiting & she's extremely timid. Females are a brownish colour but still pretty.

  7. How beautiful ... You did well to be so still and yet manage to capture him so clearly. We don't have anything as colourful as that over here.

    1. We are fortunate to have Cardinals & Blue Jays, were are both frequent visitors to my garden & quite colourful. I am hoping that I get an Oriole this year, their bright orange is something to behold.
