Take Notice Thursday - Improvements

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Notice Thursday.   The idea is to take photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in.    What have you noticed this week?

This week it's all about card making.

From September's card class I tried stamping using a mask, which just means you stamp an image on a sticky note first, then stamp your image on the card base, put the stamped mask on top & then stamp other images close to, the mask prevents over stamping.  I like but it is a fiddly method. The mask was made for the purple flowers.

Using pearlized paint on a stamped image to highlight areas.  I liked this method.  The pearlized paint colour is called champagne.

Stamping & embossing an image then die cutting it out - again a bit of a fiddly technique.  I made this card for Mr Man's birthday celebrated earlier in the month.

In just under 2 years I've gone from being very scared about stamping a single simple image to trying multiply techniques for one card.   I may not be learning something new everyday in September, but I am trying something new in September.

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift.

What have you noticed this week?

It seems to be that at this time of year in the garden, that the plants I want to admire close at hand, have visitors, some of which are way too close for my comfort.  I'm sure you can easily tell which ones I'm not keen on!

Take Notice - SPSH Finds

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Notice Thursday.   The idea is to take photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in.
What have you noticed this week?

What I've noticed this week was finds for the SPSH
 # 18. Something That Should Be Found In Pairs

I had been seeing lots of examples for this particular item but every time I did, I was on a timetable to be somewhere & no time to stop to  capture the photo.  This week I found examples & had the time to stop, turn around & get the photo.

Shoes Should Be In Pairs:  The white shoe looks to be brand new - how or why did someone toss or loose this shoe on the side of a busy highway?
Gloves Should Be In Pairs:  When I was photographing the shoe, I turned around & there was another example - a latex glove.  Not the original glove shot I had in mind but it will do.

Earrings Should Be In Pairs:  My third example was a find outside of the clinic where I work.  I was walking with my head down, as there's a little pothole in the sidewalk which I have tripped on several times, so I was keeping my head down to watch out &  there lying on the sidewalk was a really pretty single Silver Leaf earring.  Now surely someone is missing this gem.  We have it in our forgotten bin at the clinic with the hopes that someone comes to claim.
And a lucky find of Something That Should Be Found In Pairs, was this sandal lying in the parking lot  ...

& as I walked through the lot to get to another store I noticed that the mate to the that lone sandal was lying on the grassy boulevard not 20 feet away!

What are you noticing that should be found in pairs?

Take Notice Thursday - SPSH Single & Pretty

What have you noticed this week?

Noticing a few things that certainly fit the bill for one of the SPSH items - #2 Single & Pretty.

A Blue Heron that visits one of the neighbourhood catchmen ponds
This beauty is too close to the road for my comfort, I worry that not all drivers will drive cautiously in case she or her family & friends jump out.  She's so pretty in her summer colours.
But my entry for SPSH is this beauty.  A lady at church gave me the chrysalis in a jar this past Sunday; it was black which meant it was hours away from becoming a butterfly & sure enough, it broke out & was a beautiful Monarch Butterfly - it stayed in our garden for about 3 hours before it felt strong enough to fly off.

Feeling quite blessed to have noticed these beauties.

Take Notice Thursday - A Comfory Place To Watch

On a recent visit

to the neighbourhood of Mr Man's childhood, we went to the pier for a walk.  New to the area were all these amazingly colourful chairs.  The town's park committee invited individuals & businesses to purchase one of the chairs & paint it as they saw fit.  The results is at least 100 of these comfortable colourful chairs.  They are chained to posts & such so that they don't develop legs.

I've picked a few of our favourites.

Take Notice Thursday - A Place To Grow Dreams

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Notice Thursday.   The idea is to take photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. What have you noticed this week?

On a recent walk through a neighbourhood that is not ours, I came across this Little Lending Library.  Not only are they providing books but a place to sit & maybe thumb through a book before you decide on a title.  Little Lending Libraries are popping up in many neighbourhoods.  There has been one at a home in the south end of our village & when the residents decided to sell, their first order of business was to find someone to take on the Little Lending Library, as their real estate agent advised that it was not a selling feature, so best to remove or move it.  Thankfully someone in the area was able to re-home it.  Yeah for community.

Take Notice Thursday - It's Corny

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Notice Thursday.   The idea is to take photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. This week's photos are of the corn field behind us.  It has been a very good growing season for corn this year.  Lots of heat & humidity mingled with rain.  I have always said you can hear the corn growing & now there's scientific evidence that says yes indeed you can hear corn grow, you just have to have the right type of listening equipment.

From late June:

From mid July:
From Late July:
From August 7th - you can not see anything over the corn now, even standing on my garden bench.

Taking notice that the next SPSH Link In is only a week away.  Here's a few of the fish that I have found for the SPSH, which I thought was going to be a really difficult find for me, turns out I was wrong ...  it's finding shells that has me stumped (so far).

I think this is my favourite fish find

these are real fish - babies of some kind

Take Notice Thursday - On Reflection

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Notice Thursday.   The idea is to take photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. This week my noticings are reflections taken on a recent wandering.  The water was still, the sun shining & the light combined was perfect.  The water isn't dirty, there is a lot of iron clay in the ground.  The water was very clear.

Take Notice Thursday - The Badlands Were Good

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Notice Thursday.   The idea is to take photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in.  What have you noticed this week?

We have known about the The Badlands for years, but it is only recently that it has installed a parking lot, a boardwalk & a viewing platform.  Prior to this, the area has been fenced off with security keeping watch.  So as part of our Summer Manifesto of wandering, we wandered over recently to take a closer look at some good examples of bad land ...  "let us wander where the WIFI is weak"

The exposed bedrock at the Cheltenham Badlands is Queenston Shale, and this iron-rich shale was deposited over 400 million years ago, when the area was part of sea bed. The shale has eroded into a series of hummocks and gullies, producing the distinctive landscape due to the removal of vegetation during land clearing and livestock grazing in the early 1900s.

The striking landscape of the Cheltenham Badlands is one of Ontario’s geological treasures and is one of the best examples of badland topography in the province. Today, the Cheltenham Badlands is recognized as a provincially significant Earth Science Area of Natural and Scientific Interest. It is owned by Ontario Heritage Trust and managed by Credit Valley Conservation Authority.  Wikipedia.Badlands

Take Three Thursday - Grumpy Pants

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Three Thursday.   The idea is to take 1 - 3 photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in.  Happy Independence Day to my American blog friends.

What I noticed this week are three things that annoy me, none of which I seem to have any control over, so maybe there's the rub.  I know the saying, when you can't change something, change how you think about it or respond to it. I also know that none of these are life altering, but still ... they do annoy me.

This is our outdoor storage cupboard.  This is not our cat.  She looks very sweet & she is quite beautiful,  but what she is doing from this vantage point is hunting my chipmunks.  Go home cat!
This is only one of the several rude neighbours who cuts their lawn & blows all the grass clippings all over the sidewalk. There is a by-law but no one seems to take notice.  It's very messy to walk through & it can get quite slippery when wet - the little kids on their bikes have been known to wipe out in this mess.  Sweep up or bag it!
Man buns - in my opinion, this is not a good look for any of the men I've seen up close & in person.  Sorry Boss Man, you aren't rocking the look,  you need to cut it!
Source: Internet.  Not Boss Man
OK now that I have those little annoyances off my chest, what is some little thing annoying you that you cannot change?

This week my threesome are from my garden.  My tree peony, which was late blooming this year but I was most thankful for the bloom as I was a little concerned for its survival over the winter.  She, surely is one of the queens of the garden, majestic with blooms that command attention.  I did have one year where she bloomed with 7 magnificent flowers but I'm really not comparing ... just thankful she has survived & gifted me with 4 this year.

No changes for the summer for my Take Three Thursday posts.

This week my three are from our visit to Long Run Adoption Centre, which is located on a beautiful 100 acre farm.  Long Run provides Ontario Thoroughbred racehorses with a dignified retirement along with being an adoption centre for horses able to have a second career.  I have  friends that have/had horses through this adoption program.

My heart was given to 54 beautiful horses this day, along with 10lbs of carrots taken.
