This week my three are from our visit to Long Run Adoption Centre, which is located on a beautiful 100 acre farm. Long Run provides Ontario Thoroughbred racehorses with a dignified retirement along with being an adoption centre for horses able to have a second career. I have friends that have/had horses through this adoption program.
My heart was given to 54 beautiful horses this day, along with 10lbs of carrots taken.

They are, indeed, magnificent and they seem very well-cared for with those glossy coats. I can see you are a little in love :). Very cheered to see you have blue skies after all the rain.
ReplyDeleteAll 54 of them were in top form. There's a large group, that are turned all 24/7 during the better weather & with all the fresh grass they are getting a little plump. It's back to rain for us but tomorrow the sun will be back to welcome summer's arrival.
DeleteThank you for visiting my blog. I love the horses in your post, especially the two who are 'kissing'. Do horses kiss? I don't know but it looks cute anyhow.
ReplyDeleteI think the correct term for that is nuzzling. My last horse, Joshua, use to hug me. Thanks for stopping by to visit with me :)
DeleteWhat lovely photos, 3,2,1 - I think that last one is trying to ask you to take him home with you!
ReplyDeleteIf only I could keep in my back garden ... I think photo #3, he was begging for more carrots - which he received. :)
DeleteI've never had a horse and never been in a position to care for one, but I went through a horse-loving period as a child and I've ridden a few times. I love that these horses have such a peaceful retirement and the chance for more in life as they are able. It must be fun to be close enough to visit them :)
ReplyDeleteAs a kid we couldn't afford horses, I worked cleaning stalls at a riding place just to get 1 hr a week of riding. The first thing I bought after starting to work was my first horse. It has once again become a rich man's game, the board is beyond my financial abilities. (for now).
DeleteI'll bet you were that little girl to quite a few horses!
ReplyDeleteI have been. My Mother said my first word was pony & until I was 14 or 15 yrs old I never just walked - I trotted or canter ... :)
DeleteObviously a lovely place to visit. So glad you were able to bring some pleasure to their lives in retirement.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a magnificent farm, the grounds are so well kept & while I love the smell of a clean barn, these barns were totally odourless! All the workers are volunteers.
DeleteI've never been a horse person but I do like photographing them and these photos are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eileen.
DeleteFabulous snaps; they are stately creatures, aren't they. And charming in that third instance. We are lucky enough to live across the road from a horse veterinarian, so I'm often blessed to see foals in the field.
ReplyDeleteOh there is nothing like a foal - although they kind be naughty little beasts. There's an old quote that you can hear the voice of God between a horse's ears & I believe it.
DeleteThe horse in image 3 definitely looks as though he's trying to attract your attention!
ReplyDeleteHe had, just had 3 carrots & wanted more - his antics did get him another ...
