Me On A Monday - June 15th

Hello, good morning & greetings to all.

Blogger, which is the platform that I use to write this blog, has decided that for my benefit they have made changes.  Apparently I've been asking for these changes although someone will need to jog my memory as to when I asked for change. So far I am not liking these changes.  Those using Blogger, what are your thoughts?  Worth struggling through?   Not sure where Blogger & my relationship is going ...

Currently Wearing: as of Friday June 12th our county has made it mandatory for all to wear a face covering/mask when entering a business.  Outdoor patio restaurants & farmer's markets are exempt. Although  all business whether indoors or outdoors must also adhere to the 2 metres apart rule & limit the number of shoppers at any one time. Of course true to human nature there is a lot of debating & bitching about these rules, particularly over the wearing of masks.  I find the argument of "it doesn't protect you from the virus" rather lame at this point.  It's for protecting others against you; you possibly having the virus & spreading, so if everyone is wearing a mask it cuts the chances of spread way down. There is now lots of hard science to back this up.  The number moist droplets we spew out even in just talking is quite mind blowing, let alone how far those droplets travel &
linger in a sneeze or cough.  Also moist talking is a Canadian joke & refers to an early in April COVID press conference our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau gave about moist talking.  You can find it on uTube. It is the one time he has made me laugh.
Currently In The Garden:  the plan I have launched this year against three overly aggressive plants in my garden felt like one part of my garden was partially won back.  I am in a fight with Violets, Lady's Bells & Grout Weed.  I marked sections of were I will focus the effort to ripping/digging out by hand of these three plants.  In one section I discovered several other desired plants; Daylily, Sedum, Lady's Mantle hiding & barely hanging on because of lack of light.  There were also two large Hostas but they just pushed their way through but now I can at least see them clearly.  Our easterly neighbours got a truck load of free tree mulch dumped on their driveway Friday & on Sunday offered us what was left from his needs.  We got about 6 wheelbarrow loads, which now that it is down, smells like we are in a forest.
The Three Not Wanted: Violets, Lady's Bells, Gout Weed

  1. I don't like the new blogger and was seriously considering switching to WordPress. I'd say stick with it as it does get easier. My main issue is that it isn't consistent - sometimes I can load photos on my blog and/or add comments on other blogs, and sometimes it's it just won't allow me to. It's frustrating and I don't know why the changes were necessary.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going to take the next couple of days to review any online info about the new version of Blogger.

  2. Over here face covering is only mandatory on public transport or in a hospital environment and apparently our science argues the fact that wearing a mask can give you a false sense of security! It isn't really an issue for me at the moment as I'm not using public transport or going to crowded places!
How nice to discover some wanted plants being hidden beneath the unwanted ones.

    1. Some of the best data about wearing face masks comes out of Britain, so I do find it odd that they don't recommend there. For us it was the use of gloves as the sense of false security. The Lady's Mantle was the best find, this is a baby of the Mother plant, lost 2 years ago.

    2. In England, from today, wearing masks is compulsory on public transport and it is recommended that they are worn in shops and anywhere that it is difficult to stick to the two metre rules. All medical appointments require masks to be worn as well. There are stiff fines for anyone who fails to comply.

  3. Waging war on weeds and unwanted planting can be quite therapeutic, I've found. :)

    1. I agree, as I rip out the weeds I imagine come people's face or some situation I am particularly unhappy with at the moment.

  4. I admit I haven't tried the new blogger yet. I guess I'm waiting until I have no choice. Masks are not mandatory here for people entering various business establishments, but the people working are wearing masks in most places. -Jenn

    1. I'm going to try & learn more about new Blogger but I think I'll keep with the old for now, it's not a good time to make such drastic changes, what were they thinking!? Our area was allowed hairdresser appts. before other regions to the east of us, so they tried getting in here, most salons asked for proof of address. Again I just wish they would make the rules for all, not just pockets - I am confused enough as it is.

  5. I'm finding the more I use the new blogger the easier it gets. I like the new layout for posts as it's easier to see what is scheduled or in draft. Yay to giving your good plants a chance of some sunshine. 🌞

    1. I have found a website that goes through each of the features, which I'm working through. Change is inevitable I know, but I just cannot wrap my head around it just yet (col). I appreciate your encouragement ...

  6. Face masks are required everywhere in NY, and I'm just fine with it. If we're walking on a trail, I carry mine and put it on when someone is approaching. Used to be that was the common practice, but I notice now that fewer and fewer people are wearing them when outside. Yesterday we drove home from our walk through one of the charming suburban villages, and I was rather shocked by the number of people (not social distancing), eating outside (tables NOT 6 ft. apart) and a long, long line at the dairy for ice cream. Seems a bit premature (by months) for this kind of action.

    1. Our area had since beginning of April left it up to individual businesses, but now it's a $500 fine to both shopper/person & business if not wearing. It's been mandatory on some forms of transport since early April, Toronto is moving to transit mandatory masks July 2nd(why the wait??) I also carry one at all times just in case. Our area hasn't had a COVID death in over a week although there is a few new infection cases, all of 20-30 year olds (protests?)

  7. I don't like the new Blogger at all. Mine had a 'Revert to legacy Blogger' option so I'm sticking with that for as long as they let me.

    1. I'm in Legacy Blogger again. I have found a site with instructions on new Blogger. I'm going to read through & then I'll decide if it was a helpful site, but for now, I'm with you on staying in Legacy for as long as possible.

  8. That sounds like quite a tussle with your weeds and am pleased to read there was a reward for doing so! I hope the regulations are observed - alas, over here, the wearing of face masks is not compulsory except in hospitals or on public transport. It's a fortnight since I've been in a shop but I wear one when I do - I'm often the only person with one on ...

    1. Both Lady Bells & Gout Weed have long runner roots & if you don't get the whole thing, it comes back. I have found putting the thick layer of mulch down makes it easier to spot the renegades, which I then give a shot of white vinegar to, that kills right to the root.

  9. I use BlogSpot which I think is different. Hope it doesn't change any time soon. At least we have plenty of time to work in the garden. Mine is looking better than it has in years!

    1. I must check out BlogSpot. Yes the last week has been quite enjoyable temperatures to work in the garden - by Thursday another heat wave, so I'll be moving indoors.

  10. I haven't tried it yet. I have a Wordpress account and can switch if I can't get along with this. That said, they've changed Blogger before and I got used to it. Blogspot is Blogger: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blogger_(service)

I encourage my violets, but I'd switch to another ground cover if I found one.

  11. I am still not going out, other than to do curbside grocery pick ups and to drop things off at a friend's house. Too many people are disregarding the requirements for wearing masks. Our county numbers are still very high.

I think you are already on Blogspot - that's what it says on your blog: patioposts.blogspot.com

I haven't tried the new blogger format yet. I don't like change.

Oh, how I wish I had a problem with violets! LOL. I can't get it to grow in my garden! My unwanted plant, if I can call it that, is mirabilis (four o'clocks). They come up all over the place. But, for the most part, I let them grow because they do have pretty flowers.

    1. I think it's true the quote about flowers & weeds - a weed is just a flower growing where it is not wanted. I think some restrictions have been lifted too soon.

  12. So far I've navigated the new Blogger changes ok, but it's a little slower making sure I click the right icon to post or save or go back. :|

We're still wearing our masks when we get out here, although it's not mandatory in our county. Of course, the next county over does require them ... which seems crazy since all the cities & counties run together here in the Metroplex. Seems it would be best if we were all doing the same thing. LOTS of people here are not wearing them.

    1. In our province some areas are on Stage 2, while others are still at Stage 1. The medical officers are lifting only when the cases of new cases & death rates are on the decline, which makes sense. I am in favour of masks for all.

  13. Hooray for garden progress! Always a big plus. And how fortunate to get the extra mulch too!

    1. I am going to (try) to focus how what I've cleared away & not what's let to do. I may resort to spraying the white vinegar on areas I know have no known rescued plant possibility & just kill the weeds/not wanted plants, to the roots.

  14. So I am now wondering if you had more changes to Blogger than what I am aware of. I used to use Windows Live Writer to do my blog posts and like that better than Blogger, but that went away nearly a year ago. I haven't found the recent changes to be difficult . . . (knocking on wood)as I have only lost 1 blog post.

The only thing I don't like is that if I pull up an old post to look at something then it puts it up with my most current posts and that can be confusing. Otherwise I am getting around all right.

    1. I having been reading more & more about new Blogger, but I'm not feeling as stressed by it now. I do not use a lot of Legacy or New Blogger functions, so I think my very basic needs will be fine.
