Me On A Monday - October 23rd

Good Morning, I hope that you are all doing well.

Currently ReadingThe Essential Guide to Intermittent Fasting for WomenBalance Your Hormones to Lose WeightLower Stress, and Optimize Health, by RamosMegan.  Interesting but definitely it feels like there are chapters missing in the book.  I didn't find that this book gives me enough complete information to take on this method of eating.  Not even sure I want to read any more about the topic.  Have you ever tried the intermittent fasting way of eating?

Currently Watching: on Brit Box we decided to re-watch an old favourite; Lewis. Interesting to watch a young Laurence Fox & know about the current Laurence Fox of GBN fame & controversy.

On regular TV, we are watching Annika with Nicola Walker. Not sure I like, that periodically she pauses & talks to the screen.  Is this the director's intent to engage, me, the audience?

We have waiting at the library, the DVD, season 8 of Brokenwood.

Currently Mr Man's Eyes:  he had a dramatic set back this week, which required an emergency visit to the surgeon/doctor.  This week coming "they" are going to do a minor surgical procedure to open up the stint wider to allow more flow to relieve the increasing pressure in the eye. But first more medications to get the inflammation under control.  Grateful for availability of the surgeon to see Mr Man & for him to have a solution that will help.

Currently Reminded: of a quote I had posted in Wisdom Wednesday a while ago, although I might be paraphrasing myself; "a lie can run around the world before the truth has tied up her shoes to get out the door".

Currently Feeling: I'm not much in the mood for seizing the day, but rather just poking the day with a stick.

Time to pour another cup of tea, hoping your day, your week, goes well.

  1. Sorry about Man's struggles. The 'joys' of this year are never-ending, or so it seems. We've recently re-watched Lewis and loved it -- again. What a great program over many years! Whatever Fox is, he was a great Hathaway. Back then I thought that there should someday be an Inspector Hathaway spinoff, like there was a Lewis from Morse. I hope your week goes as well as possible.

    1. I was also hoping for a spinoff Hathaway series after Lewis ended. Mr Man's eye health issues continue to be a source of great worry & when I say I'm grateful for his specialist doctor, I mean it, I keep hearing horror stories from friends & neighbours about their lack of doctor care. It is most worrisome.

  2. Oh I’m so sorry to hear about Mr Man’s eyes. How fortunate that you have been able to get him professional help speedily and I hope the procedure is successful.
How unpleasant Mr Fox has become since his days in Lewis. I’m sure that my current opinion of him would cloud my enjoyment of the programme!

    1. Deb, I find that sometimes I cannot get the enjoyment from some shows when I know the actor(s) have been behaving badly (IMO). It was sad that Mr Fox's rude comment got the host suspended as I quite like Dan Wooten. We are very fortunate to have Mr Man's lead surgeon/specialist that is so caring - he, the doctor, seems to work every hour God sends.

  3. Why oh why do my comments come out as ‘anonymous’!

    1. It is one of those continuing technology mysteries. I find it is really hit & miss on some days. But thank you for continuing commenting on my blog :)

  4. Intermittent Fasting is my normal way of eating. I don't eat breakfast, and I eat supper early. It's always worked for me.

I was so disappointed to find out what Fox was like personally, but his views aren't new. I watched the show anyway. I'm glad y'all were able to see the doctor so quickly. I'm not even poking the day lol I'm more keeping an eye on it as I make my way ;)

    1. Did you use a particular guideline for the intermittent fasting? There is so much online, a lot that I've read is conflicting. Do you recommend a source for info? I've been working at no eating after 6pm & not eating before 7am. Sometimes not even making eye contact with the day is the best approach (col).

  5. Ah yes, Lewis - the time when LF appeared to be sane ...
Not good to hear about Mr. Man's set back, hoping things are resolved very soon.

    2. I did not realize how much controversy seems to surround Laurence at many turns in his life. Mr Man's eyes seem to be on their own schedule of healing. The specialist muttered several times the challenge Mr Man presents. I guess this is one way to gain fame in the medical text book cases.

  6. I'm so sorry to hear that Mr. Man's eye required an emergency visit, but, glad that there are specialists and surgeons to attend to him.
I like your quote about the lies and truths. :)

    1. Thanks Bless, the quote seems appropriate at so many levels of life right now. Mr Man has a fabulous team of eye specialists of which we never take for granted.

  7. So sorry to hear about the setback with Mr. Man's eyes. It seems like one step forward, two steps back. You both must be disappointed. I was immediately interested in the fasting book until I read your review. I try to fast for 12 hours 8-8 as many days as I can. It seems to help if no other way than to keep me from snacking at night. That quote is so relevant now, and the tragedy is that truth is so often co-opted.

  8. Oh dear! I hope Mr Man's eye surgery goes well this week. he must be so frustrated with it all.
We're thinking of watching Endeavor, again, from the beginning. Not sure we'll make it as far as Lewis, although it is a good series.

  9. I have tried intermittent fasting, but I only lasted 3 or 4 weeks. I tried to keep within a 10-hour window for eating, which at least stopped me snacking in the evenings, but I lost interest as I lost no weight at all in the time I was doing it. (And yes I was eating sensibly during the 10 hours!) I am now trying to limit myself to two meals a day and trying to walk a bit more as I have really let that slide. I haven't weighed myself but must have lost a little bit of weight as my skirts are feeling more comfortable.

Laurence Fox has become more and more antagonistic recently. I think originally he had some valid points, and a right to express them, but as so often these days, the media stirred things up and (again as has become the norm) people retaliated with anger and indignation instead of with reasoned debate/discussion. Now he seems to just be resigned to being the bad guy and living up to that image. It's a recurring pattern in modern society, and will not get us anywhere.

I only lasted one episode of Annika, for the very reason you mention: I didn't like being talked to out of the screen. It felt very Brechtian - and no more effective than when he did it!

Oh my Mum has had that op several times, to relieve the pressure in the eye! All the best to Mr Man.

Not much seizing going on here, I just manage what I manage and that will have to do.

    Pretty photo.

  10. Ella thanks for the feedback on intermittent fasting. I'm going with the no eating after 6pm, not before 7am. I can easily skip lunch, but we have just this week tried eating breakfast, then a late lunch/early dinner so it's just two meals a day (would that be lunner rather than brunch?) I miss discussion, everything is so black/white, & if you don't agree then you have some kind of phobia about you. So much hate in the world right now. We know life is a million shades of grey, IMO.
