Me On A Monday - October 1st

In The Mail:  we received our package for voting by mail.  On October 22nd we go to the polls to elect regional council; mayors & ward representatives.  I must admit that this is the first time I have really thought about not voting - I do not like any of the choices.  No worries though, freedom to vote was a hard won battle so I would never toss away that privilege.  It's one of the reasons I do not like voting by mail - it removes us from the act of voting, the personal connection to exercising a right & a privilege.
Reading:  two books on the go right now (1) The Dinner List - so far I'm liking, I like the idea of a dinner party of a variety of persons which could include both living or dead (2) The Art of Keeping Secrets - very predictable story & ending, I could never buy into any of the characters so I did not become invested in their lives.
Planning: now I'm thinking about who would be at my dinner party. The book, The Dinner List,  gave her only 5 guests but for my list I'm giving myself 11 others.  Who would be on your dinner party list?

Celebrating: well celebrating is maybe going to the extreme, but certainly demonstrating a willingness to accept the season change; I've switched over the closet from summer lights to the other chiller, colder, snowier season wears. I am celebrating flannel bed sheets, warm fireplace evenings, hot apple cider, cozy sweaters; no wool; allergic; hot casserole dinners & glorious colours of the trees.

"October is about trees revealing colours they've hidden all year.  People have an October as well."  Jim Storm

So let's all show our own October colours.

  1. I like the act of voting in person although I did have a proxy vote for the years when I lived overseas. If you really don't feel you want to cast your vote for any of the candidates, is there a way to spoil your ballot? I don't suppose there's a box marked "None of the above-mentioned muppets", is there??

    1. Muppets is a good description of the candidates. I am sure our current major will be re-elected; I am not a fan of him. We do have a process to register our votes as "non complient" I think that's the term, that doesn't spoil the ballot but says you didn't like the choices. Who ever wins is then suppose to contact this type of voter to assure them that they would be a good choice. There's something about this I don't like, it's not maintaining privacy ...

  3. I keep seeing these stunning photos of Autumn colors and trees that have turned red and gold, and here I am with the only colors we're seeing so far being shades of brown lol I love seasonal changes, but we're still having highs in the upper 80s F here, so your photos are exactly what I needed :)

    1. It was a very wet dreary day today & the only thing glorious were the trees turning colour. I just marvel at nature's art ... I'll gladly share more as the season moves on - there is actually a weather piece that updates daily on the colour changes & the percentages. The maple trees still give some of the most spectacular leaf colour.

  4. Trees here in Wisconsin are just beginning to change. Most are still green. I'm thinking by the time we drive home a week from now, we'll see more color. It's been very wet and chilly here the last couple of days. Voting in the US next month will be very important if we hope to see any change. A friend and I have been writing postcards to encourage people to get out and vote. I just recently read a review of The Dinner List and added it to my to-read list---which is so long I will never get to all of them--especially since I add books quicker than I can read them!

    1. I am sure it will be a pretty drive home. I have been to Wisconsin, cheese captial of the US of A. I also just read the state of Wisconsin has more milking cows than all of Canada! Fingers crossed that both sides of the border have lots to celebrate at Thanksgiving. I'll say no more.

  5. I love that idea of 'I don't like any of the choices' - so often I find myself choosing a candidate toot for simply by the 'they are the best of a bad bunch' theory! Those autumn trees are so beautiful, make the most of them before they are covered in snow!

    1. I've read & listened to their reasons for running, sat through question/answer periods & it's all the same ... not a fresh idea among them & our current major is all about the number of likes on F/B & being popular. He makes popular but not necessarily tough or right decisions for our community - he listens to the loudest yelling voice. There is still flowering beauty in the garden but Calgary Alberta just got 20cm of snow! I think our days are numbered!

  6. Beautiful October colors!! Not sure who'd be on my dinner invitation list … it's been a while since we've hosted a dinner party. That does sound like an interesting book!

    1. I am putting together a list of woman that through the ages have been vilified when actual facts show they were not ...
