Take Three Thursday - The Sweet Side of Christmas

In an effort to notice more of the ordinary in my life, I have decided to share what I have noticed this week in Take Three Thursday.   The idea is to take 1 - 3 photos that are linked some how; by theme, by colour, by date, by moment,  by points of view. There is no formal link in but please feel free to join in.   What have you noticed this week?

Christmas treats everywhere is what I'm noticing.  All the special chocolates sold & shared at Christmas.  Lindor are some of my favourites along with Quality Street.  Thankfully both can be bought at the bulk stores, so just a small hand picked selection for at home.

Cookies, I like cookies, I would take cookies over cake any day.  I watch the Christmas Cookie Challenges every year.  The decorating is truly a talent, not one I have.

Ah the smooth & usually sweet Christmas drinks, especially those with an egg nog base - but not to much or those digestives woes return.  Using candy canes as a stir stick - well it just makes it all the more festive.

"a balanced life is having a cookie in each hand."

  1. Every year I think I should have a go at decorating some biscuits (cookies) but always chicken out at the last minute ... I know my skill in this area is severely lacking and they'd just look a mess!

    1. I'm ever so pleased when my cookies keep their cutout shape but the skill at decorating is very limited to icing & maybe a few sprinkles. That's why I like to bake shortbread - they don't need decorating!

  2. Those biscuits do look lovely, but it really is bonkers just how much sweet stuff appears on the supermarket shelves, isn't it.

    1. At this time of year it's the truffle chocolates that tempt me the most but oh my they are expensive. One chocolatier shop is even decorating their truffles in some amazing designs.

  3. Christmas sweets are a looked-for part of the season for me :) I'd enjoy all these treats. The iced Christmas cookies are festive! I can't make them myself and good ones like these can be hard to find :)

    1. There isn't anything that I don't love about Christmas. I've had a few of those really fancy decorated cookies that just about broke a tooth biting into them. That royal icing can get really hard.

  4. I love beautifully decorated cookies. I've read lots of tutorials, but somehow never have the time or the patience to put them to the test!

    1. I think patience & a very steady hand are needed. I'll stick to learning more about stamping straight that decorating cookies - one is much better for my waist line.

  5. I love Lindor too! Those biscuits in your second picture are just exquisite.

    1. Lindor does make the best truffles. The biscuits (cookies) look almost too good to eat - almost ...

  6. I'm a Lindor fan as well - have you tried the mint ones? I'm not a huge 'mint' lover but the mint Lindor are delicious, very subtle flavours. I eat way too much sweet stuff over the holidays I'm ashamed to say and could very easily eat that whole plate of deliciously decorated biscuits!

    1. Lindor has a warehouse store (thankfully) about 45 mins away - all their flavours are in bins & you pick the ones you want & then check out by weight, of the chocolates not the purchaser ... this season my favourite is the candy cane but I do agree the mint ones are subtle & very yummy, oh & then there's the orange or the white chocolate. Probably easier to say the ones I'm not so keen on ...

  7. Lindor have a warehouse store? I'd be tempted by such things. I love cookies and baking but having gone gluten free I'm having to learn and try out new recipes. I remind myself less baking does mean less eating too!

    1. The local Lindor warehouse had people lined up outside waiting to get in on Christmas Eve day! I really cut back on my baking this year but still have too many treats around - I've bundled into packages & put in the freezer as we are hosting a thankyou lunch in early January.
