Me On A Monday - March 22nd

Greetings one & all.  I hope that this Monday, the first Monday of 2021's Spring, finds you all well & basking in happy weekend memories.

Currently Look Who's Back: Patio Pete!

Currently Admitting: to being wrong. Back on February 2nd, I saw my shadow & yet Wiarton Willie did not.  February 2nd is Ground Hog Day aka Candlemas.  Wiarton Willie is our groundhog weather forecaster.  I said a late spring - I was wrong.  Spring has sprung, early just as the rodent said it would.  Mind you we are still "wearing" winter's remnants of dull brown, nothing green yet.

Currently Taking Two Steps Back: after reporting that my vertigo was improving, I had a few really difficult days last week, which seemed to be in the wrong direction.  I do have a scheduled appointment for next week with the specialist. We had a bit of a phone interview & she gave me a few things she wanted me to do in the mean time, one is to greatly reduce or preferably eliminate computer screen time along with TV time. She wants to see if that helps with the migraines I've been having, which she feels is due to the type of vertigo I have.  OK maybe, reduce greatly is doable ...

Currently Reading: A Fatal Lie by Charles Todd (Mother & Son writing duo), which I am really enjoying & just about to finish. I like mysteries & this one was/is very good at having me try to figure out the truth & which is the fatal lie.  Ready to start is The Clay Girl by Heather Tucker.  Heather is the SiL of one of the blogs writers I read, The AC Is On.  Good Reads sums up The Clay Girl as "The Clay Girl is a beautiful tour de force that traces the story of a child, sculpted by kindness, cruelty and the extraordinary power of imagination, and her families — the one she’s born in to and the one she creates."

Currently Encouraged By: while wandering in the back garden to welcome Ms Spring on Saturday, I noticed with great excitement, that my surviving Hellebore has two flower buds on it. Sunday afternoon I took the winter protection hut off my Tree Peony & again a burst of excitement was heard throughout the neighbourhood, it has survived & it has several new leaf shoots on it. The hut is back on as later in the week snow is forecast.  But never the less, welcome Ms Spring 2021 - you so far have my vote for Ms Congeniality  ...

First up - the Hellebore flower buds:

Next up - the leaf bud on my Tree Peony

Spring unlocks the flowers to paint the laughing soil.”

  1. It has been a few years since I have read Charles Todd. I was up to date at the time, but I suppose there have been one or two more novels since then.

    1. I did not realize how many this duo of Charles Todd have written. As I request more of their books, I am assured at having something interesting to read as we probably approach another lockdown.

  3. Isn't it lovely to see those first shoots of spring - now let's just have a little more warmth to the days so that things can really get growing!
Sorry to hear that the vertigo is bad again, hopefully the specialist will have some answers. Take care x

    1. Even though it's still quite dull in the landscape, it's an exciting time in the garden. I'm hopeful for a full diagnosis, of the what, why & how to rid.

  4. I checked our hellebore yesterday and both had multiple buds. We are seeing signs of green here: daffodils have started poking out, the little yellow flowers and snowdrops have made a come-back. This is the nicest stretch of spring weather I can remember in March---ever? Whatever--I'll take it. We were out for a 3 mile walk yesterday. So lovely not to be all bundled up! I'm so sorry to hear about the vertigo. It seems to be an epidemic among my friends. You are #3 suffering with severe enough vertigo to be consulting specialists! Keeping you in my prayers!

    1. Prayers very much appreciated Karen - thank you. One lady in my bible study group has been hospitalized because of such serve vertigo, no cause found as yet. It does seem to be happening to more & more people & more woman than men. I worry that my male GP will chalk it up to female stress. I'll say no more.

    1. Thanks Ruth, I'll take that hug as I've had a bit of a moan this afternoon ... we got up to +18(c) this afternoon, I sat for quite a while on the patio & fed the chipmunks.

  6. The chipmunks are always fun to watch. I love the Charles Todd Rutledge series. I'm looking forward to flowers :)

    1. Charles Todd has certainly written quite a few. I know I read one after a referral from you, which I enjoyed, now I've got 2 more requested.

  7. I know you have to wait a bit longer for spring than we do, but I must admit that when our spring flowers are over and you are still enjoying yours, I do feel a little wistful! For now, we still have plenty, so we can enjoy together!

  8. So sorry to read that the vertigo is not going away and is still troublesome :(. That must be really miserable. I do hope your medical services are able to help you swiftly. Lovely to hear that despite your snowy photos this winter, things have survived and are pushing up through the soil. Hurrah for Spring!

    1. I will shout along with you, Hurrah for Spring. One of the good things about lots of snow is that it does protect the resting plants.

  9. I do hope the specialist can get the vertigo and migraines sorted out. That must be miserable ... migraines are bad enough without the added symptoms of the vertigo. Sending positive healing vibes your way xx

    1. I am most hopeful for help with the ongoing vertigo. I did notice today a reduction in head/eye strain when I cut back on screen time.

  10. Sorry to hear that the vertigo is still continuing to bother you; hopefully, the reduction in screen time will be helpful. But, yay for spring and buds of all sorts appearing in your garden!

    1. We did a little bit of cleaning up of the flower beds & I was surprised to see many of the tulips peeking through! Such a time of hope.

  11. So glad you are getting glimpses of spring! After all that horrid weather in late February, spring has arrived here & all the Bradford pear trees & redbud tress have been blooming and stirring up everyone's allergies. I'm enjoying the sunny weather & we're walking most days.

    1. Oh redbuds, I have always wanted one in my garden. We are at least a month away from pollen season of the tree blossoms. While the weather holds, I'm trying to get outside as much as possible, nature & sunshine do so much to lift my spirits.
