Me On A Monday - March 8th

Come On Monday - I'll Take You On

Good Morning.

Currently Reading:  I finished Anne Cleeves "The Darkest Evening".  This is her latest Vera books & I quite enjoyed.  I also just finished Louise Penny's "Kingdom of The Blind", another good read.  And now I wait for several of my library requests to show up.

My library ladies know me so well that when I was picking up last week's book request, they included without my requesting, the spring issue of Creative Scrapbooker.  It is so nice to be known.

Currently Watching:  Belgravia.  I had read the book & I quite like the TV adaptation.  I think anything that has Harriet Walters in it is going to be good.

I haven't seen the interview Oprah did with Prince Harry & Meghan.  Not sure I want to watch, but I taped so I have the option.  Did you watch?

Currently Improving: ever so slightly on the vertigo.  Dr's latest theory is that it is not just a case of vertigo, but quite possibly a blockage in my ear - he did an ear wash, nothing "moved" but the scan shows a fluid build up behind this blockage, more so in one ear over the other.  So the long & short of it, I need to see an ear specialist, but because of COVID restrictions, it could be 2-3 months.  Thankfully none of this is life threatening, just life annoying.  I have a few home things to do & one is applying a heat pad several times a day to both ears before doing the vertigo exercises & then applying heat afterwards.

  1. I liked the latest Louise Penny book as well, but I want the next one to be back in Quebec. I had vertigo for months once. It started after we got back from a holiday. I saw the doctor about it and he couldn't find anything wrong. I researched it myself and decided I had something called "disembarkment syndrome". I felt like I was walking on an air mattress and was slightly drunk all the time, but didn't feel it all when I was driving. It went away as mysteriously as it came. I hope yours goes away too. -Jenn

    1. Thanks Jenn, my vertigo seemed sudden. My GP tossed it out that I may have Meniere's, which is chronic fluid in the middle ear, so possibly chronic vertigo - Oh great. I also liked The Devils Are Here but like you want the next one, Madness of the Crowds to be back in Three Pines.

  2. I haven't watched the Oprah interview either and don't really want to.

It's good news that there is a slight improvement with the ear problem. I hope the specialist appointment doesn't involve too long a wait.

    1. Thanks Eileen. At the best of times specialist take awhile to see, but with COVID protocols the time line is longer. My lean is towards not watching the interview; for a couple begging for privacy, I just don't think this is the way to go about it.

  3. I am pleased that there has been a tiny move in the right direction with the vertigo but how frustrating to have to wait for an appointment with a specialist.
I won't be watching the interview, I am sure all the 'highlights' will be on tv constantly for a while! I have a soft spot for Harry given that he lost his mum so young and in such awful circumstances, but worry that he is losing a bit of credibility with such interviews. I cannot begin to imagine how hard it is for someone to come into the royal family as theirs is not a 'normal' life by any stretch of the imagination. I think that they moved to the US for more privacy, so maybe doing a high profile interview was not the best way to achieve this.

    1. I agree Deb about doing the interview; why. Harry was rather indulged by The Queen as was Prince Andrew ... I'll say no more. An improvement of 1% is just that improvement & in the right direction; I'll take it, plus these exercises & heat pad requirements are proving to be a restful bit of my day. :)

  4. I'm pleased to know that you've a slight improvement with your vertigo difficulties - hope it's not too long before it's sorted out completely.
The H&M interview will be broadcast this evening in the UK - am in two minds about whether I watch or not. I just feel that if things were really so awful for them, why didn't they say so when they first announced that they were stepping away. Also, you can't bleat about lack of privacy and press intrusion, and then give an interview to Oprah, knowing that it will be syndicated around the world. But my biggest complaint is stop washing your dirty laundry in public - be adults: address it directly, resolve it or don't and then move on.

    1. Thanks Ruth, hoping vertigo goes by spring gardening weather! I haven't seen, just heard/saw some clips from the interview. I am surprised that when Meghan was having self harm thoughts she didn't feel she could turn to Harry to help her through it, especially since he is such an advocate for mental health.

  5. The one time I had vertigo that lasted, I saw an ENT specialist over a period of two years. (No, thank goodness, the vertigo did not last that long, but he followed me because they were unsure of a diagnosis.) His initial thought was it was caused by a virus, and that ended up being his final word on it when it, fortunately, did not return. We watched the interview, and I thought it was well done, and that both Meghan and Harry tried to be sensitive to the family and yet honest about their difficulties. We've watched just a couple of the more recent episodes of The Crown, and Meghan's story sounded a lot like Diana's experience portrayed in the series.

    1. I am wondering about the ear infection I had in November, I'll need to tell the specialist about this. I know The Crown is popular, but I think many forget, it's not a documentary but a drama production. Also Diana, Princess of Wales used the press as much as they used her. I feel so sad that Prince Charles was a liar liar pants on fire on his wedding day "renouncing all others" was never part of His plan.

    1. We have Vera season 10 on reserve at the library & I cannot wait. So pleased to hear that they are filming season 11! Also excited about Louise Penny's next book release in August.

  7. I'm so glad to read that there is a tiny improvement in the vertigo! I hope the improvement continues and you do get to see the specialist sooner rather than later. No, I did not watch the interview. Didn't even turn on the TV, yesterday!

    1. In the end I deleted the taping; by all accounts it wasn't going to meet my requirements of (1) did it entertain me (2) did I/would I learn anything ...
Yes slight improvements are in the right direction.

  8. Glad to hear there's an improvement, even if only slight - heading in the right direction :). So sorry you'll have a longer than usual wait for a specialist - same over here, and many don't expect to see one for at least a year. I didn't watch the interview - given the awful and constant press attacks on them here ("Meghan bad, Kate good') I can quite understand why they wanted to be somewhere else. I'm guessing that continuing criticism of everything you do, say, own, look like is bound to make you feel you have to explain and defend yourself, if only in the hope that the constantly negative press leaves them alone. When you feel you are being bullied, sometimes you have to stand up for yourself?

    1. I'll never understand why the press wanted to pit the women against one another, you would think the female editors would put a stop to that, especially in this time or day (International Women's Day). I guess the royal stand of never complain, never explain isn't good enough to sell papers.

  9. Glad to hear that there is some improvement with your ear. Here's hoping it's not too long until you get an appointment.
I didn't watch the H & M interview and probably won't. There are two sides to any problem but we've only heard one so I can't comment.

    1. Thanks Liz. I was advised/warned the specialist could be up to 3 months before I see him/her. :(

In the end I deleted the interview without watching. I feel sad that it forced the Queen to think about to release a statement; she has enough on her plate without this.

  10. I haven't watched the Harry and Meghan interview, but I haven't heard anything that surprised me. I'm glad it seems Harry is doing for Meghan what his father wouldn't do for his mother. It all sounds like a toxic atmosphere no matter who you believe.

I'm glad there's progress on the vertigo front.

    1. Sorry I missed this ... I'll put the blame on vertigo (col).

I am disappointed in both of them, but especially Prince Harry ... it's probably better if I don't comment further.

  11. I didn't watch it, mainly because I can't abide Oprah's sensationalist style, but also because I agree with what others have said: loads of hypocrisy on display. These matters should have been dealt with like grown-ups and in private. Harry, particularly, should (and does) know better. As Susanne said, there are people out there with worse problems, getting on with their lives.
